Hello, I just bought my first Ferrari. Its a F355 Berlinetta from 1995. Never owned anything Italian before and I'm very excited to see how this relationship turns out. I do have some questions that I hope somebody might be able to help me answer. I just had a major engine out service where everything that was supposed to be changed was changed. I also replaced the clutch. I drove the car from upstate New York where I picked the car up to the metro area where I live. The car kept a normal temperature but after driving the car for a couple of days I now seem to be having problems with keeping the temperature on the right level. A couple of days ago I took the car out from my garage, went around the corner to pick up a friend and kept the car running the entire time. I might have been waiting for about 10 to 15 minutes. Just by standing there with the engine idling made the temperature reach almost the red line. But as soon as I'm catching some speed it will go down but if I'm stuck in a traffic jam it will go up again. The light never came on but its just below the red zone on the gauge. I read about people replacing fans and relays and I'm just about to check those and see if they work but before I just wanna check with fellow Ferrari owner of the same car and see what their experiences are. Would be thankful for any responses.
Congrats and welcome to Ferrari Chat mate. Sounds like they may have not bled the cooling system properly when they did the major service for you. That or it's low on coolant since the service due to a leak somewhere, or the fans aren't working or the thermostat is sticking etc..etc. If the cooling system is full, then I would check the fans first to ensure they are working, then I would bleed the cooling system. Give that a go and see what happens mate. Be sure to post pics of your 355 when you can. Congrats again and enjoy.
Congrads on the new purchase. You will def. enjoy it. As far as the temp goes, the simplest things could be the culprit. If you have not yet, replace the temp sensor on the rad. Another issue is that if you have the smallest leak, the system will pull in air that will collect at the thermostat area thus causing the thermostat open very late since the air pressure is not enough to push it open. Check under the car when hot and see if you have any leaks. Again, would like to see pics as the above mentioned. Thanks and welcome
CGH, you have some balls to roll a 355 in Williamsburg! Right on brother. Watch out for those deadly NY potholes/cobblestones and you'll love the car. Also watch out for high points/buckling in the road, these cars will scrape the aero-tray on almost anything. Long noses on these girls. Might want to install skid plates from Hill if you haven't already, just in case a nasty NYC parking-garage exit is unavoidable. (Side note, why are the girls so good looking in NY?) Also, drive it as much as you can, winter's a-comin!! Sorry if you know all this... I agree with everyone else that your problem is probably something minor like a thermostat or bad fan, etc. Good luck with the fix, these guys on Fchat really know their stuff, and can save you tons of money. Enjoy the new car, and congratulations. These babies make the hair on my neck stand up, every time. -cuneo 1995 F355 B PS, let's see a pic or two of the car!!
Finally its out for the season! I bought this baby last year and hasn't been able to drive it until now. The overheating issue was a hose that was leaking. The car had a full engine out service before I picked it up from the dealer. The car has around 57k miles and is equipped with a Tubi exhaust. Driving this car around Brooklyn, Williamsburg is a challenge with all the nasty roads but during the weekends I let it stretch its legs out on Long Island which is way more fun. I aim to keep it stock although I was considering swapping the seats for some OMP seats... Thank you all for welcoming me to the forum! Image Unavailable, Please Login
Yes the mileage is on the higher side but I want to use my car pretty much every day I can so the mileage is a out right for me. The car is in good condition mechanically and I have a lot of receipts from Ferrari that shows vital parts have been changed/upgraded.
Don't worry, the mileage is a badge of honor for those that like to drive their cars. It looks great. Enjoy it and drive it. These italian beauties need to be driven often to keep the problems away.
Very true. I see this car being my daily driver this summer. Hopefully it'll handle the bumpy Brooklyn roads...
By the way, any fellow Ferrari owners in my area? I know there's a white 599 and a 430 Challenge Stradale parked in the building right next to mine but would be fun to meet other Ferrari owners in the area.
Thanks to this resurrected thread I puled fuse #23 and found that it was burned open. My temp has never hit the redline but it varied allot more than I thought it should. I can't wait to see how this pans out.
Post your results... it's always great to read a thread that comes to a resolution without a large bill
I moved to Houston last year from NYC and bought a 355... good chance I could be moving back soon... Good to see there is a way to keep it! I will hit you up when i found out for sure...
There is actually quite a few. I'm surprised that they haven't chimed in yet. I know of at least three other people beside myself who's have 355's. So your in good company. Good luck and hope to meet you. She looks great!
