MS and Brawn are the reason that team are what they are now. Same reason Ferrari was what they were ten years ago. Luca is just an idiot

I never said they were not key elements to the team I only eluded to the fact that it was Mercedes who brought MS into professional racing in their World Sportscar Championship team thus the loyalty.

I have read some very supportive post of MS from tifosi12 so I think there is a misunderstanding.

Maybe, but this is coming from the guy who said Schu will retire in 2 years, Merc will never be anything and will leave F1, Michael is a washed up driver, and takes pleasure and seeing Michael's car breakdown and then finds reason to blame Michael for being behind in the points because of it.

I haven't done a spreadsheet this year, but I showed in my spreadsheet last year where Nico outperformed MS consistently through the qualifying session rounds and best race lap. Advantage in points is also indicative of "end" result. This year even more dramatic on "end" result regardless of the root cause, that's racing. Michael certainly has been more competitive than last year in qualifying and lap times, but not "better" than Nico.

    Qualifying Best Position:

    MS: 3
    Nico: 3

    Race Best Lap:

    MS: 2
    Nico: 4

Tifosi12 and I might have similar views on Michaels performance since first retirement, but it isn't because we don't like Michael or want him to do bad. We're being pragmatic looking at actual results and hard statistics. Anyone involved with racing understands it is like other pro athletes where extended time off and age do have a negative impact, no matter how small of tenths, it is still there. Michael may be really good, but however good he still isn't good as he was, to claim otherwise is very disrespectful of his 7 championships.

While I agree he's not as good as he was, he is certainly every bit as good as Nico ever will be, and nico is currently one of the best on the field. I'm not sure how you're comparing best racing laps as Michael's car constantly broke so I'm confused. All I can do is compare them be qualy performance thus far, and Michael's car broke in Bahrain qualifying.

yes, I can give you it is closer this year, too close to really smack everyone in the face with stats like last year. I predicted that when he came out of retirement, I said every year he would get closer and closer back to his edge, but never quite there. I don't think there is anything but emotions to say Michael is better than Nico now, but there is certainly less of a gap.

You can't look at a drivers performance purely based on statistics. The reason MS is so low in pts this season is because of circumstances mostly beyond his control. He'd be a damn sight closer in points if his car actually held together.

In any case, haters will always come back to the statistics instead of what happens out on track. I know what he is capable off, still is (to a lesser extent). Fact of the matter is that he's as quick or quicker than guys half his age.

you can get away with focusing on the micro level, but when year after year the macro view indicates the same thing you start running out of excuses. I know for a fact in the long run you make your own luck.

You may very well be right. I also believe Michael has never had a teammate this close to his abilities before either which makes it even more difficult to tell. Per everyone in Brackley though, Nico is much harder on his tires and cannot nurse the car when needed and push when needed like Michael can. Perhaps a control and technical ability issue? Who knows.

It is refreshing that there is enough material between lap times and finishing position with Michael that detractors can talk about that. When he was winning 7 Championships those couldn’t be argued and only negative material was what kind of gentleman driver he was. :D

I still do not accept or believe that MS is not as good as he used to be. To me this assumption is based strictly on a car that did not suit him when he returned.

    Carry on.

how many 43 year old stars are there in NFL, NBA, NHL, MLB, and football? I'm not as sharp as a driver at 38 as I was at 33.

    Rob,
You are using sports that have alot of full body contact when in reality there is no reference towards motorsports, imo. I'm a sharper and better driver at almost 48 than I was at 38 so maybe it's just you???

Its all personal on MS cause of the inner hate. Like our passion for Ferrari, we hate massa more cause he fails to deliver. No one speaks with a more negative tone than you guys do for MS. How come you guys dont compare lap times between Roman and Kimi or Vettel and Webber? Webber must really suck and therefore should be banned and have multiple threads started stating that he needs to retire cause he is slower than Vettel per statistics.

Im just an observer on this section but I can definetly feel the hatred for MS.

Im just happy to have another driver on the grid that drives hard.

hand eye coordination, willingness to see God under braking, and physical endurance (everyone knows the strain on body and the high heart rates drivers achieve).

anyone that has an argument against this and that there is a peak age crossover of physical and mental ability with experience and maturity simply is ignorant. 43 is well past that point.

It is simply because this is a Ferrari community and Michael deserves all the fanfare and accolades for the past, but so many here look through rossa colored glasses and the current fanfare exceeds reality.

Because of these very statistics you so casually dismiss, it is that MS was crowned the most successful F1 pilot of all times.

Now that the statistics go against him, you can't just ignore them. If you do, you might as well crown other drivers, who came close but never got a cigar.

Fact remains that these comeback years are the least successful F1 years in MS career (not counting the tail end of his debut year).

Have you ever looked at European web/chat sites? There the negative comments are a lot more common than here (in the States and/or FChat).

Doesn't sounds like anyone is looking to drop Michael anytime soon......

    From the ESPN site, edited for brevity;

A few podiums and a win or two this year and he'll be back..... Anyone who writes him off is a fool IMO!......

    Cheers,
    Ian

I give credit where it's due, and there have been spots of good and bad luck for certain drivers who just plain never got their fair shake. And certain drivers who should have and should not have won championships. If that were the case, I believe Senna should have one more title to his name, and Schumacher one more title to his name. But that's luck, and that's racing. To not give any weight to curcumstance and somehow blame a driver for their luck which has befallen them is beyond unfair. Especially sticking their dismal points figures in front of them like it's somehow their fault for it.

It heavily depends what websites you go to. Schu is the most popular driver in the US and remains very popular elsewhere. The elite F1 crazy crowd is very fickle, I'm proof of that.

Even without it really, he's not going anywhere. The team is just now getting very competitive

When did you become the authority??? Maybe your digression is such physical aspects is clouding your opinion? You say your only 38, maybe there is an inherited attribute at your loss of driving prowess?

When you think about it, MS could easily have 11 titles right now. Possibly even 13 had he stuck around in 07 and 08.

It's clear that age has affected Michael. The late-90s Schumacher would annihilate Rosberg in qualifying. However, as you say, he is still "one of" the best...but it's clear he has been usurped by others as the years are not working in his favor.

Michael Jordan comes to mind, both he and MS are 7 time champs, and Jordan's comeback at age 40 (though he was still very good, had 42 games scoring 20 or more points his final season) was not very successful overall and he was clearly not the same player as he had been years prior.

    Time waits for no man.
