Your dad wins this thread. That's just ridiculously cool (I was two years old when he bought that car).

    Cheers,

    George

I have kept mine for 19 years so far. Some years it seemed like a stretch and it sat, others I had the money to put into it as I would like, by now the ammount spent on maintenance(EO,INJECTION,CLUTCH,HOSES,SWITCHES,FUSE BLOCK ETC), upgrdes(WHEELS TIRES,AC,IGNITION,VALVES,EXHAUST ETC) and making it run right must have averaged 5k per year.

Keeping the boxer has been a test and motivator, the a bar below which I really dont want to fall. Sometimes I wonder why, and given the value and limited use, have contemplated selling and putting the money into something like a GT3 but as someone here said

"Color me sentimental, but that one will always be special --- it was my first, and it has a very special ownership history --- the car is almost like a souvenir / memento for me"
In fact I have not sold any car in years(save wife's fungible suv's), which is probably overly sentimental and impractical.

OPn the more objective side the boxer covers the old car charisma ferrari engine thing pretty well, it goes well against most moderns, and on open sweepers it is still beyond peer, the sense of occasion, comfort, power and feedback, make it almost perfect for the right sunday road drive.

Of the newer ones only the 458 really motivates or maybe a scud. The 458 because it is pretty much the only modern that has true beauty and they go well on the track, and a scud because they go really well on the track. If its a modern the only place to really fully enjoy is the track. But truth be told my Lotus does all the hard core track bits I need for now.

Would I sell, yes maybe for a 288, but if it were for a 288 the value of the boxer should not be a detriming factor given the cost of a 288. So there is nothing in the modern F-cars I really have to have, I only have space to park 4 cars and that is taken, and if I were spending a whole new 300k on something else, it would probably be prioritised towards a GT3, and a Morgan+8, and a 50's alfa, aand a 4 c and a ford raptor. So pretty much not going to sell the boxer, it covers my Fcars needs, and a range of use that is not filled by my other cars.

I still own my first Ferrari and will probably never sell it. It is a 1989 328 GTB. When I bring it to various outings I always have people coming up to me asking if I want to sell it because they used to own one and regret selling it.

I also still own the first car I ever bought new. Hold your laughs... it is a 1985 IROC-Z. Black and Gold with T-Top roof.

Great thread. Have just moved through it all and it seems 60-70% still do own their 1st Fcar. I wonder if this stat actually is representative of the entire owner population? My guess this is biased to the high side, but no doubt a lot of us do get "attached".

For myself, I still own my first car that wasnt transportation, a 69 Z/28RS bought in 83 and restored shortly after--- my high school dream car that I couldnt afford at the time. Since then I have filled up two garages with lifts and still rent space and I highly doubt if the CS ever gets out of family hands either. In fact, I've never sold a car that I acquired for fun and sport. May need to do that someday.

My challenge (no pun intended) is I like all performance oriented cars, even the new Boss 302LS. Now, like most of us, if a 288 ever showed up...........

I don't have my first Ferrari - a 328 which I bought in 2002, but I have my second 328 after a stint with a 308. I may sell it for a 355 Challenge, but not without trepidation. Instead, I consider selling my current race car to get the 355Ch. I can envision my 328 to be my last street Ferrari, while I keep changing my daily driver and upgrading my race car.

Never missed the later ones, but everyday I regret selling my 355 6 speed that I bought new in 1996.

Bought a Mondial five or six years ago, and I will never sell it. It is my FIRST Ferrari and therefore very special to me. With what I could sell it for it wouldn't come close to being worth it to me to sell. Plus I really like it and can't see ever growing tired of it! I will definitely add other Ferraris at some point, and will probably buy and sell several others before it's all said and done, but the Mondial, along with a few others, will always be part of the "Permanent Collection". I tend to get emotionally attached to cars anyway, so that makes it easy for me to justify one being a keeper.

Love it. I hope me and my Mondi can do the same 52 years from now. I've been a proud owner since 4:56 pm on 7/8/09. 4-5-6-7-8-9. Don't know what it means but I do like numbers.
