New owner, so sorry about the noob question.

I have a 2001 360 Modena F1. I know it came with an auto/manual option. I remember reading about this in the buyers guide.

It mentioned that while in city streets you should leave it in the auto option. The auto option is faster and makes it easier on the jump of the 1st gear.

Then it recommended that you should bump it into its manual paddle option when you hit the freeways.

Any opinion on this? Does the auto option put that much wear and tear on the car and do any of you recommend as it does to use it while in the city/traffic/etc?

As you can see I haven't got to drive it much yet. Picking it up in about 2 hours.

My understanding is the auto feature lets the clutch slip more than changing the gears and as such creates more friction which in turn creates more wear.

@netman Thanks. I picked her up yesterday and the dealer mentioned the same thing. I found it interesting. There was a clutch, but no clutch pedal... seems to make the automatic option pointless?

@grey Sorry. I am familiar with general forum etiquette and the need for a search function. I am familiar with how much this irks people on my financial and 49er forums I regularly visit.
I am just so lost when it comes to Ferraris, and to be honest cars overall, I wasn't really sure which terminology to use or what to search for. I searched for automatic, manual, gear box, etc... but it just kept bringing up loads of posts. Thanks for the heads up.

As usual, the grey pugilist is right on. The search function is definitely your friend on this one.

Bottom line is that 360 F1 clutch wear is controlled almost entirely by (1) proper installation & adjustment, and (2) driver technique at starting from stopped. Not many people use it but the built in F1 auto mode has no affect on clutch life or any other aspect of wear on the car. It’s a great car so best of luck!
