I posted this in the European section, and have had no luck. I know there's a bunch of you that have gone over to Italy to see the factory and museum, hopefully you can help me out. I'll be going over in a few weeks for my honeymoon, and am trying to get info for a sim card rental for my phone. I have a Galaxy Nexus, international version, so i know i wont have any problems on the hardware front. I've read online that getting unlimited data, with voice is a fairly reasonable expense, however everything I'm finding is $100+ US for a 3 week time frame. I'll be flying into Fiumicino international, would they have anything more reasonably priced? ideally I'd like to have the sim card already, so i wouldn't have to mess with that when i land.

Unlimited for $100 sounds reasonable to me....

With Verizon I subscribed to the international plan which reduced calls than they are normally. You may also be required to enable a data package. I used my phone normally and received calls as if I was in the US.

If your carrier is charging you 100.00 for 3 weeks, that is not a bad price.

Another option is to buy a prepaid phone while you are there, but I'm not sure if that will be much cheaper than 100 bucks.

I was there in the end of March. I have a Verizon I-phone 4-s. I called Verizon before I left and they unlocked the phone with no hassle. I bought a SIM card at the Pisa airport for $20 and got unlimited internet including being able to use my phone as a hotspot for other computers for the week. I did have to find independent internet service to set up the the new SIM card, which took a minute. Also, with this SIM card in the phone I could no longer access my US phone #. I didn't care, as anyone that wanted me could/did use e-mail.
We were mainly in Tuscany and I had very little trouble even out in the country although every now and then we did lose service.

There are services that will ship you a card before you go,but tis this is very expensive solution.

Using Verizon data roaming in Europe would have been gruesomely expensive and they severely limit the amount of data available.

    Cheers,
