Is there anything that will perform well on these wheels? Right now, my car is running Michelin EnergyX tires, which offer just pathetic grip. Is there something that will actually stick, or is my only real option to upgrade to 16" wheels?

I'm running some Sumitomo 205-70H14. They are round and black, hold air, balance fine ride fairly comfortable. For basic rubber, they handle fine. I wouldn't dare push it too much. Or Coker remakes XWX's for 585 each. The 14 is a real dilemma. if you want something that really rocks but is severe! You can try Hoosier and Goodyear GSCS (DOT legal race tires). I've run the GSCS for race events. The car sticks to the road like you can't imagine, but they wear really quick, and are 200+ each. I think I got 2,000 miles out of them.

I even contacted Pirelli about making a batch of tires - no luck.

Stay away from the BFG Radial T/A's. S rated crappy tire.

I got a set of the H-rated Sumitomo HTR 200 tires last year from TireRack and they work great. However, not listed anymore. Having the same problem with getting good 15" tires for my big block C3 Corvette. Time to budget for 16"s for the 308 and 17"s for the Vette.

I think 16" QV repros will be my Christmas present to the 308. As long as she's good all year.

I guess we all have our own experience. I've had a set on for the last 5 years and find them to meet daily driving needs. 235/65 fronts and 245/60-14 rears.

I was in the same boat, I had to get some goodyear old minivan tires ( new tires, but I know the sat on a shelf for some time ) , because down here there are not sooo many choices , I felt soooo bad, so I just got some repros, and I bought some michelins super sport A/S 16", I havent mounted them on, but I´m sure I will love them , I wish for you the same, as I know you will feel great about modern tires on your car. Also, if anyone has tried these tires, I would love some feedback.

    best of luck

I may have gotten the last set of Sumitomo HTR 200 in the States. I called Sumitomo and they were kind enough to point me to the last pair they shipped to a dealer, a tire store in San Rafael--Cains Tire. Cains was great, and they kindly shipped the four they had to me in Seattle, even though they are not in the mail-order tire business at all. The tires seem to work well, but alas, no more.
