I like it but that front end is getting a little long in the tooth. Glad they are changing up the rear a bit...adding curves
They didn't manage to top the perfect DBS. I don't like the new center console and the new exterior design is not fluid enough, as an Astons design should be.
just a worked over DB9 IMO ....to busy with it's added on looks ...i would have liked it more a homogenious body design ...but i bet it'll look great in person vs. photos i wish they had saved the vanquish name to be used with the next completely new AM design
looks better than the rest of the AM line up (which is saying a lot) but still not as good looking as the Vanquish. The front end is a bit generic since it looks just like the db9. Though the old vanq had a "similer" one it hit everything right on IMHO. the old vanquish is the best looking car ever built IMHO. IMHO
Why can't Aston Martin put a really good dual clutch gearbox in their sports cars? If Ferrari, Porsche, BMW, Audi, and even VW have a good DCTs, why doesn't Aston Martin, or Jaguar for that matter? I drove the Rapide, and it's auto gearbox changed gears quickly for an auto. But it was not in the same league from a sporting point of view as a Ferrari or Porsche DCT. If the new Vanquish had a really good DCT, I might buy one. But if it has an auto like the Rapide, it will just be an expensive GT cruiser, not a sports car IMHO.
Definitely agree with that. As much as I would like to see them continue to offer a manual, double-clutch systems seem to be the trend now. The least they could do is to offer a competitive gearbox that compares to Ferrari's or Lamborghini's. As their top of the line model, the Vanquish should be a bit more than a plush mile-muncher.
I'm not sure where the center of the exotic car world is located, but I'm sure where I live is light years away from it. Exotics are rare and an treat to see on the road. I remember going to LA several years ago and of course in Beverly Hills spotting the cars was fun. Lamborghinis, Ferrari, R-R, even other Astons. But the car that stopped me dead was a Vanquish in that greenish-gray color (not sure what it is called). That to this day remains the most stunningly-beautiful yet super-aggressive car I have ever seen in the flesh.
Id rather see the vanquish as more of a sports/super car then a tourer just becuase they have the db9 variants as tourers.
So hard to tell what is a new aston and a slightly older one. They are just reheating the pie again. Looks nice but soi does a DB9. I gues its rleative lack of operformance compared to a ferrari wont really matter on the street and it will cost a lot less so there is a small niche here.
No, sir. That's called planned evolution. If I show you a DB7, and then a newer DB9, and then a V-8 Vantage, and then a One-77, you'd see some progresses as they reheat the pie.
Maybe, but a. people get sick of eating the same thing again and again, and b. the One-77 is a pie that got burnt.
Porsche sure manages to sell a lot of 911's. Personally, I don't like them all that much, but God knows they sell a ton of them. Perhaps Aston is thinking (or hoping) of a similar long term plan with their current design language?
Porsche has a nice set of offerings that enable it to cover a large part of the market. Super-exotics? Check. Outright racecars? Check. Family car? Check. All-weather SUV? Cheaper SUV? Performance SUV? Basic convertible? Cheaper convertible? Little sportster? Check, check, check. You can grow within Porsche from car to car. They are also a known, high-quality product. Porsche doesn't do anything for me personally, but their strategy is comprehensive and successful. Aston has roughly the same product across its range, with the notable (and overpriced) exceptions of the Rapide and One-77. Few know about the DBR and they are not street-legal anyway. The Vantage and Vanquish are baby and papa versions of the same car and same experience. In Europe, they also offer the Cygnet. If anything can turn you off a luxury marque, that is it. I think Astons are gorgeous, and the modern cars are solid offerings, but I do not understand their market segmentation or strategy. You need to have more than just a beautiful product for long term growth. If I a buy a V8 Vantage, it would be awesome, but there isn't another current offering to move on to from that. I wouldn't want any of their other offerings except perhaps an older Vanquish. N24? V12 Vantage? Vantage minus roof? V12 Vantage minus roof? They are all too similar. Pretty, but too similar. The only other car that appeals from this marque is the DBR, and that's a very specialized offering. It's not going to carry the company.
I just came in from detailing my 05 Vanquish S and I can say that I have no interest in this car and resent their re-using the name for this model. Astons in general are timelessly beautiful - this one (the Vanquish 310 is what AM people are calling it) has fallen prey to the styling of today - the nose looks like it's stolen off a Gallardo and is completely out of character with the rest of the car, which has no cohesiveness to its design details. The Vanquish should be a halo car, not just in that it's the most expensive of the line but in that its the pinnacle of their design language and technology. This is a freshened but still warmed over VH platform with a little more power - and no stylistic staying power in my mind (or my wallet). I'm sure it will be better looking in person as even my Vanquish never quite comes through in photographs despite being one of the most beautiful cars of all time (and having made numerous lists to that effect). However, I think Aston should have sent out their Works people to throw a burlap bag over Ian Callum's head and drag him back to Gaydon from Jaguar to put things right. And while we're at it, why isn't A-M suing Ford over the nose of the Fusion? It's outright theft of an A-M design - ironic given that they waited until they sold off A-M to steal from them.
I dont see a dramatic difference between this new model and the 05 variation. They got that one right.
