    the large amount of water had nothing to do with the stabilizer, basically there are two ways for that much water... the car was sitting out in rain with the filler caps leaking water into the tank or the water was pumped into the car at the point of sale ( or vandalism of someone pouring water into the tanks )

    as you noticed water does not compress ( as in injection systems and cylinders )...the motor loses every time... sorry about your loss

    Brand new gas tanks, new gas cap seals, new gas. I see this as a classic case of ethanol fuel phase separation, plain and simple. The tank shape is also wedge shaped which no doubt contributed to the fine collection of the water at the pick-up point. Thank you for the condolences. It has made me very paranoid about leaving gas for exteneded periods of more then 4 months.

    i use non ethanol gas regularly but switch to a tank of chevron every fourth fill up.
