I have a 1983 European QV that gets too hot in traffic. Case in point...coming home to NJ from Limerock ALMS races this past weekend. As usual there was an accident on the NYS Thruway and I crawled for about 20 minutes. The outside temp was 90+ and the gauge started climbing. I got real nervous when the gauge hit 105C but then I passed the accident and made it home okay. The temp after moving went back down to 90C.
I have done everything and would like to change the pusher fans to the Spals but have no idea what model to order.
Can someone help me out with a model number that fits the 308?

I have a set in my garage in a box. I will look tomorrow and see if they are ok. I will sell them cheap. Need to get rid of all my 308 stuff.

Make sure your cooling system is bled, and that your foam is intact around the radiator. Age is catching up to these cars. I suspect many of the radiators need to be rodded and cleaned out.

Disconnect the thermal switch wires and touch them together with the key on. Both fans should come on ( set the AC switch to "on" on the console for the right fan to work)

I have done all that you have suggested, thank you for the response. I even installed a set of relays so the fans would draw directly from the battery and not through the fuse box. I would be very happy to buy your fans from you, just let me know.

    Hi Michael,
Thanks for the effort and the reply. Unfortunately your fans look no different that the original ones on my car. I'm looking for some high speed multi-blade fans like the Spals.

Never heard of it being done and maybe it can't be but I've always wondered about taking the stock ones to a alternator/starter repair place to see if they could modify or mount a high efficiency more powerful motor in the existing canister.

You can change the blades on the fans. Those fans and blades I have are correct for a carb car. QV's have a different blade, and the can be changed in seconds as they are held in with a cir-clip. Rutlands has the blades, try some on your fans, but if you have a Qv, you should already have the multi-blades, and not what i show in my pics.

2V car fan motors have a round shaft with nut. QV car fan motors have a D shaped shaft in different diameter with circlip. Not a simple swap.

I just replaced the old 4 blade SPAL fans on my 83 QV with Hayden 3680 from Oreilly auto for about $50 each.
The fit well but the easiest way to install them is to remove the radiator and AC condenser.
The radiator cannot be rodded out but I did pressure wash the outside of the condenser and radiator and straightended the bent fins on the condenser.
We'll see how it works out, the temp got up to 105C but the outdoor here was 110F last week. BTW I thing the manual says 230-240F is the upper limit and that is 110C on the gauge.

SPAL ratings are different for the same fan, depending upon sucking air through the radiator from behind, or blowing/pushing air through from the front, with blowing being about 40% more powerful, and the original location for 308 cars. Does anyone know what the original ratings were for the Lucas-driven Moplen blades on a 308? Thank you.

This is what I bought. 2 10" low output spal fans #30100320. Works great with my new Aluminum Radiator. Make sure you have foam under and on both side of the radiator and on the hood. 95f outside in traffic with a/c on doesn't go over 95c. On the road below 90c
