My intention was not to insult anyone. but with that said, if you fall into the category of buying into dealers nonsense of "this is the way it is" well then i think the saying goes "a fool and his money......." My intention was to point out that we as the consumer have the money which intern means we have the power, which means We make the rules, and then there are those who dont care about the rules and allow the the dealers to conduct themselves any way they seem fit.
I dont know, but there is nothing on this earth that i would pay for and wait three years to to take ownership of. Just seems sorta desperate.

    Nah... just patient! :)

Honestly, the day that car showed up was one of the highlights of my motoring life. I'd owned several Ferrari's but that was my first new one I ordered and the factory made for me. To me, that made it "mine" more than just a piece of paper saying so.

I could have gotten a car earlier if I wanted to pay 50K over MSRP. That, to me, is more desperate.

LA is a tough, tough market -- at least is was in 2005 when the F430 first showed up. Money grew on trees then. Today, more like sour grapes. Times do change.

Agreed, paying over msrp is just plain crazy. And yes there was something special about having a car built for me and the anticipation of delivery.I just dont like how some dealers seem to take advantage of wealthy people in the want for something nice. And i do get the supply and demand thing, but i think ferrari plays on that. I guess its just business.

Dealers who are savvy businessmen want to keep their good customers happy. They want repeat business. They want customers in good times and not so good.

They know wealthy people have options. Nobody has to buy a Ferrari.

LA is still a tough market as there are many people with the money to buy the newest Fcar every time it comes out and have the first build slots locked up. It's the way it is. I suppose that I could look into playing all sorts of games to try and change that fact but I do like my relationship with my dealer and that does mean something to me for my 458 and Fcars in the future. BTW, as Bob and others have mentioned, frequent buyers have priority. I have purchased 3 Fcars from my dealer and like the fact that this does give me a build slot before a first time buyer. I may not like, but would have to accept, that others in LA that have purchased 30 Facrs would get a build slot earlier than me.

A businessman who does not take care of his best customers probably won't be in business very long.

Paying over sticker is not necessarily crazy. Look at it this way; if you had paid 50k over when the 458 first came out and driven it for a year and then sold it you probably would have gotten close to sticker for a 50k hit. Now,if you were a newbie and waited 2 or 3 years for a sticker car you would be getting toward the end of the model run, or certainly well into it, meaning many similar cars out there for resale, and after a year or so your sticker car would probably be worth 50k or so less than you paid. Same loss either way but by paying market in the beginning you have the enjoyment immediately and are better positioned to get in line for the replacement model at sticker.

I have no issue with people who pay " market price ". You said it all when you said ".... It's just business " . When the economy crashes ( I say it will) or these cars become a victim of the Eco people and start sitting unsold on dealer showrooms the tables will turn and we will be in a completely different position as buyers. We can even expect Harry and David fruit baskets every month. In the meantime bend over please.

Onno - please accept an apology on behalf of my rude countrymen.
They spend too much time in P&R ;)

To the OP - why not drive something else fun and interesting for a few years, then buy a nearly new 458 Spider and save $100k+ :)

Onno knows there was no insult to anyone here. There was no need for an apology if you just read the posts instead of sticking your nose in things.

Onno: Let ME apologize for someone here who has his own agenda and is using your posts to insult others. What should be a forum and discussion of cars sometimes turns ugly. Unfortunately, you had to witness it here.

Ok, we've done enough "apologizing". Can we get back to the subject?

I think that if you walk into a dealer, deal directly with them and straightforward, you can get a Spider in a year, maybe 14 months at MSRP. A coupe even quicker and at MSRP.

Even if you ordered one today, it would take 6 months for it to show up at your door.

If you have a dream and desire, it should be worth waiting for.

    Do you understand sarcasm with the " :) " symbol ? --- It's a joke.

Find another place to spread your hate. This is a discussion of cars. Maybe you need to be reminded.

I lived in Europe for a year and a half. I love Europe. I was working there just 2 weeks ago. I sell a ton of products to the European market.

Maybe you want to check your facts before "apologizing" for someone else. Maybe if you realized it was a joke you should apologize instead of double downing. An average person here who made a mistake would.

Last time I looked this thread was about how 458 owners can help other owners on how to get one.

Do you have a 458? Just checking....

Oh, I didn't think so. So, why are you here? Ah, I understand now.

Let's get back to what's important instead of someone grandstanding on a soap box. This is getting childish. I've asked several times to stop this attack. Please grant this request so we can move on.

You've made your point. You were wrong. So, let us get back to talking about cars again, shall we?

The Bob doth protest too much.

No I don't have a 458, and neither does the OP BTW.
Why am I here? Because I'm a paid member of F-Chat, the thread title is enticing, and your "joke" embarrassed me, as an American.
Joke or not, it perpetuates the "ugly American" stereotype.

Ok... let's end this (for like the 5th time).

It was a joke. Screw me if you can't take a joke. Now your comments of "ugly American" are putting a good thread about how to buy a car into P and R. Thanks for nothing.

Admit that it was a joke and you're sorry for misunderstanding what was said so we can be done with this silliness.

I have nothing against you. But, I sure as heck would say "I'm sorry" to someone if I misunderstood their post.

Some of us have class here.

I have bought 3 Ferraris plus a couple of other cars from my dealer. After having a deposit on a coupe since March I was told in June a new Coupe was 8 months to a year away and they were not sure about that. I could forget a new spider. So much for playing the game. I got my deposit back. I will enjoy my 599 for another year or two and wait. It may be te last one i own. My Porsche dealer brought the 4th new 991 they had to my office 2 days after launch. I ordered and waited on my F430 and that was fun but I don't want to take delivery on a new 458 at the end of the model run I will let someone else take the hit.
