Agree. But I don't hire a private detective to case my house in case someone may want to break in either. There's a limit of risk that we all accept. Going on in traffic with my plates exposed is one I don't worry about. It's public information. If it were a big problem, then get rid of ALL plates.
flip side it is not illegal to take a picture of car including license plate and post it on a public forum.
And look up the RECENT CASE of Kim Kardashian being pulled over in the last couple of days. Her plates were in the glove box for safety reasons and CHP agreed about that. There is a HUGE difference about a celebrity and a private citizen. Celebties have a much harder time arguing about their safety, when they are always in the public. TRESPASSING, VANDALISM, AND ASSAULT are very different things. And by the way, Lindsay didn't own that Porsche. She rented it. People took that picture because of her. The Porsche wouldn't be tracked back to her other than it being her and the fact that she creates publicity.
Seriously! You are asking to take down about every post on YouTube from Brian Zuk. What you guys are suggesting is that every time someone posts a car they saw at cars an coffee or in a dealership or one they saw in a parking lot or just about every car clip on YouTube, the mods are supposed to take it down? And, if I take my car to a mechanic or to get detailed or any other time I give the keys to someone I'm not "safe" unless I remove all the paperwork from the car? Give me a break. I have a better chance of being looked at by a CIA drone than worrying about this.
After a stalking/attempted theft incident, (where I was traced through plates), I started to get creative so that it wouldn't happen again. All I can say is, "Thank you Glock"!
I do have a really simple solution. Don't post your own license plates if you don't want to. If you are worried about someone else posting your plates when you go out in public, don't go out in public. We live in a world of Rodney King, McDonald's fist fights, and Honey badgers. Everyone has a cell phone with a camera now a days. There is no way to police every person's plate posted everywhere. If it's your plate you are worried about, be worried about your plate. But, leave everyone else who is not worried alone.
Just the latest round in a debate that has raged since the first days of this forum. Nobody's going to be banned over posting license plates, no mod is going to put in the effort to dump the pics, and nobody's going to change their minds. I routinely edit out plates in my own posted pictures for courtesy's sake, but don't expect others to take the time.
Well said. This is not Gone in 60 seconds where someone is going to go to the DMV pay $10 and get your info and then go steal your car all from your license plate. I never got that when doing photography either. Granted some photos look cleaner without a plate in the photo, but that is about it. When people request to take their plates out, I do ask mainly out of curiosity why. "I don't want people to have my information'. When clearly they drove it here for the whole world to see their plates. Everyone has their own reasons.
Not a problem and people can post all they want of their personal information. By the way why don't you provide your name and email address instead of being anonymous? Then again I guess we could just look you up. LOL
Since your name is Dave, and you say you live in suburban Philly, all I need is your tag number and I've got a key to everything else. I do mean everything else. That's why I wholeheartedly agree with you.
Hey, to each to his own. I may be a bit paranoid, but others would probably just call me cautious. I do look to see what is going on around me, at all times. I am aware of my surroundings, as is my wife when we're in public. I have not, to date, ever had to do anything to protect myself from a looney tunes person, but my wife has more than once in the past two years. I'd prefer folks not post my license plate, my exact address, or any other personal information about me here, but I can't control that. D
Ohh stop your complaining Dave, I will do it for you! Florida plates "STUFFIT" Dave N. Stufenschnitt 246 S. Noah Ulaanbaatar-13 MONGOLIA You like long walks on the beach at sunset.
my Mongolia plate reads ROB SUKS My Address is: 246-360 S. Noah (I own the whole block) I take long walks on the mountain paths.
This info shouldn't be available for the asking. Since it is, there's no reason to compound the potential for intrusion and/or danger by posting pics of plates on a chat site just because those same plates spend time in public. (Do we like the personal and cultural character traits such policies foster?)
Then you should contact Google and tell them to take down about 10 million videos with license plates on cars.
Or we can shut down access to the government databases that make plate numbers an issue. Or is that too much to ask, too?
Rob, I have never really understood the concept either but if it makes them feel safe too each their own. So on that note here ya go! Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
