Just wondering why so many people prefer the stock rims? Just a curiosity question.
Why mess with perfection? The only 'aftermarket' rim that looks right on a 355 are the Speedline type 2017.
The bolt pattern on the classic Ferraris is unique (except Volvo), and so aftermarket rim choices are actually fairly limited. Most of the ones that do exist simply don't look good.
That's interesting. I was wondering why so many people prefer to mess with perfection. To me, aftermarket rims are like a bad lipstick job on an otherwise perfect woman.
The 348 rims are not exactly the sexiest on the planet. I will live with them even in chrome. I don't have a huge desire to change them. I came from the Japanese then European car tuning world. No I was not one of "those" guys. Far from it. I believed in performance above all else. But if I had my Audi tt lowered still rocking the stock rims then it just would look cheesy. Same with Porsches. Rarely do you see a modified one with stock rims. I am really asking more towards a racing looking wheel. Ferrari certainly doesn't run stock rims on their race cars. I like hearing people's opinions. I have seen a few 348's with nice looking rims but there are very few that have them.
While not "aftermarket", the 360 wheels look great on my 348. (pic from a car show this last weekend) Bottom pic....don't remember what the wheels were called, but I think they look really good. I like the deep lip. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Ferrari also had the perfect racing rim on the challenge cars, so all bases covered. I use both, stock 355 rims for street driving and a set of the challenge speedlines with more agressive rubber for autox and track and occasional street use. If I had a 348, the first thing I'd do is get rid of the stock rims. The gtc rims or challenge speedlines would be my choice there, not stock but Ferrari at least. Aftermarket are almost always too gaudy or too busy and detract from the rest of the car.
I've been considering aftermarket rims ever since getting my 355 8 months ago. It's not that I don't like the stock wheels, because I do. I'd just like to go with something in a 19" of course then I would have to upgrade to a big brake kit to fit the larger wheels. So with wheels, tires and brakes we're talking at least $10k, hard to justify when the car is already gorgeous and handles like a dream.
I dont like the 360 wheels on the 360 but surprisingly I love them on the 348/355. Like the above 328 with 355 rims, good imagination.
18" wheels are the *right* size for these cars, IMO. The best wheel choice would be the Challenge wheels. However those are difficult or find (and that's why I hoarded 5 sets earlier this year) and can be expensive. The 360 wheels are probably one of the worst wheels out there BUT they look amazingly good on 348s. I don't know if it is because of the strakes or what. Consequently, because they are relatively plentiful and cheap, those would be my choice on a 348 if the Challenge wheels are not easily available. FYI, the Challenge wheels look fantastic on 328's too. If you have an 88.5 or 89, they go right on with no fiddling, mods, or spacers.
VERY nice!! I've also seen the 355 wheel on a Testarossa, also a great look...I think the 355 wheel would look good on anything
I like the standard stock rims, but prefer the optional modular Speedlines. Image Unavailable, Please Login
"Why not aftermarket rims"? Because, they look s**t compared to the original wheels. Each to their own of course, but almost without exception aftermarket rims massively cheapen the car as far as I'm concerned.
I think a brake upgrade is a must if you change wheels to something bigger and more "see through". 348/355 brakes are small by modern standards so if you put a bigger wheel on then the brakes look embarrassingly small inside a big wheel.
My 360 wheels look sorta like those in #12, but no where near as deep. I understand the previous owner had them "cut" to fit. Love the deep lip on them in #12 Image Unavailable, Please Login
I tend to like the factory wheels on these cars the best, but those are very nice. They look like an option wheel the factory might sell or something.
