There are numerous threads about this : essentially the GM part is more likely to work on a US spec car

Up4speed, I am hesitant to say anymore here as in the wrong forum. In your case though if the prior dealer is making your situation right, let them provide you with the correct alarm. From what I understand the Ferrari alarm works as it should.

Bill, that's my plan as of now.
I was just curious to know how the GM siren worked, either for future replacements, or just in case the dealer didn't follow through with fixing it this time (this way I would be out less money).
I just like to know my options. Of course it may help others as well. Sometimes using alternate parts may work, but ALL the functions may not be functional. If some people don't try the functions, they may never know.

If a person is going to be concerned about this then they should go to Ricambi and order the Ferrari part to ensure compatibility. If theft is that much a concern for an owner IMHO they should install a GPS tracking system in the car with geofencing and a remote ignition kill function.

Anyone can point me how to get the vette siren to scream when its supposed to? My car is euro, when i plugged the new siren in it made a quick chirp but wont go off when a door is opened or arm/disarm. i realize that because its euro it may not chirp and Im good with that but I would feel much better if it would at least sing when its supposed to, TIA

From what I gathered, a Vette alarm only fixed the light on the dash, and the chirps when arming and disarming (if equipped, US model). It doesn't function totally correct from what I understand, so it still doesn't ring when tripped. I'm not 100% sure because I don't have a GM alarm, but hopefully someone can chime in to confirm.

Wait one minute...you are saying that the GM alarm works 100% like the Ferrari alarm? Is so, that's great news! Why are some people having trouble with it not tripping? Does it only work on US cars?
Everyone with a GM alarm needs to trip their alarm and report back! LOL

I also installed the GM siren in my car (US spec) last year, and now I think of it, I've never heard it go off (other than the arm/disarm chirps).

If the car is locked (and the alarm armed), and the window is down, and I reach inside to manually open the door, should the alarm go off?

I tried the GM alarm in my US model '04 360CS and it did not work properly. As I recall, I would trigger immediately when turning on the Master switch and would not disarm.

Yes, it should scream and the parking lights should flash. If you just get the flashing and no noise, it's not working properly. Just make sure that you leave it for a few minutes before you trip it, to make sure it is set.

Okay, I can confirm that an "alarm event" gives me lots of flashing but no noise. The GM siren does control the dash light correctly, and the arm/disarm chirps also perform as expected.

Not sure I care too much about the siren failing to sound, but if there were a fix for it I'd certainly implement it.

As I suspected from my research. Unfortunately the fix is to buy the Ferrari siren for $300. :(

I think it could be made to work, obviously it works on some models but not others, all we meed to do is figure out what the difference is between models that work and dont and the solution should be some what straight forward. Im good at wrenching but electrical engineering isnt my strong point. Lol someone good with this stuff want to be a FC hero?

I still don't know that we have confirmation that anyone with a GM siren has a FULLY functional alarm. I think some people assumed that it worked based on the fact that the LED went out, and the chirps when locking/unlocking. Did anyone actually trip the alarm and hear it scream? If anyone did, please confirm because I don't remember anyone saying that they heard it properly trip. It would be real nice if we could get some sort of pattern going on the ones that do work.

The only time I ever heard mine was immediately after installing it and turning the master kill switch back on. I expect we all had this experience.

It's very strange that it does that, but then doesn't trigger with a breach. Now I understand why everyone thought that it worked perfectly.

My siren just got replaced while getting a major at Ferrari of Ontario. They noticed it needed it, so I could've saved $300 and bought a GM one and had someone put it in, but for me it isn't really worth all the hassle and internet research. Maybe you guys should all buy a Vette instead of a Ferrari....

    JK,
    GOOD LUCK!
