Question about Shields

Fair point. If I still lived in Boston, I might view tracks differently.

I did that first day I owned the car: Miami, FL to Richmond, VA with an overnight stay in GA. I've never driven an oval (other than in a go-kart), so no track I've driven on even remotely resembles a circle. There's no way to safely or legally extract the performance from one of these cars without going to the track, and also no measuring stick without that or a timed hillclimb/rally or similar.

I like shields perfectly fine, just when merited. I also like CF perfectly fine, just when used to actually save weight. If you enjoy the shields, why do you care what I or anyone else thinks? But since this thread asked for opinions, I gave mine. In your opinion, I'm no poser, but until you put that thing on a track or chuck the shields, in my opinion you are.

Just to be clear, my Ferrari has yet to be on a track (other than an autox), but then I have no shields....

 

I like the look of them on my 308, which came with decent magnetic shields, but I like original even more so I leave them off. To each their own, I say.

I think they should be hand painted onto the car or left off.

 

I never thought of the qualification of needing to drive the car on a racetrack in order to put shields on the car, but as I've been on Atlanta Motorsports Park, Barber Motorsports Park, Road Atlanta and even Talladega Superspeedway (as well as "Little Talladega), I guess that by that basis I'm eligible. I agree that every Ferrari should see a racetrack surface, even in pace-lap conditions, at least once in its lifetime.

I like the shields. Some don't .

 

I think shields are a "fashion statement" now and people with cars earlier than those which came with them as an option are falling into that pattern.

To me, if it's a stuck on emblem or a decal, it's not appropriate.

Even worse is some are substituting Carbon Fiber for the Yellow shield. I think they look like Lamborghini. The old man must be shaking his head. What's the point of having the logo at all if you don't use it?

 

I don't think there's an argument here. Some like them, some don't. No harm in that or in asking.

You're going to get different opinions on almost everything.

 

Although I don't care how someone else feels about not having shields on their car, I don't want them assuming to know why I have them on mine.

I have the shields because Enzo had them on his car, so it became synonymous with Ferrari cars (with S F). Also, they were factory made and sold by the Ferrari service department to be placed on the car.

 

Good looking shield. I might put one on my Volvo out of tribute to old man. Do what makes you happy and stop worrying about what the next door neighbor thinks. I think it is rather sad how many purchases/decisions in life (from cars to shoes to vacations to houses...) are based on what the majority approves of or will make others jealous rather than your honest to God preference. Agreed. I fantisized about owning a Ferrari since as far back as I can remember and the shields are part of that fantasy. I recently (2 weeks ago) bought a 328 with them and it looks fantastic. I can't get enough of the prancing horse and sit in my garage staring at every part. This is only when it rains of course. When it's sunny I try my best not to lose my license.
