That 930 has been offered for some time now. I seen it on a couple of other forums as well. I've seen chassis shots and it is very very claean throughout... However, I think $80K is a stretch in todays market.

I think you're right- although with the way people were throwing money around last January in Scottsdale- who knows.

I think a 50K mi 505 is what- $45-50K, so MAYBE this is a high $50s, low $60s car?? I do not see a premium for 505 out there- if anything it's still a wash or even a bit of a discount...

i think he is down to $77k but way too much. 4 years ago i looked at an 87 slant w/ 20K. black black flawless w/ a RUF 5 speed conversion and the Porsche "reseller"wanted $62k and it was sitting forever. these cars arent' appreciating quite yet but maybe someone will pay for it.

That is a lot of car for the money. A true exotic, for the price of a new Z06

I cannot understand why, the flachbau, is undervalued - especially the M506 cars, that were produced from 1981-1985. Most likely, it is due to the inability of the factory, to document the special low volume hand-built cars.

Agree, as usual :) with you Ralph. Always been a fan of the slantnose. I think these cars were 'hurt' even before their introduction when boutique builders were cranking out non factory slants in big numbers.

To me the 930 looks GREAT in both types! Like em both equally.

That’s a good point regarding the money spent.. and although the new Z06 is quite a car, I don’t think it will ever have the appeal, panache, nor obviously the pedigree of the 930.

Regarding the Flachbau, prices have been on the rise for these lately as well. They were hot once, went out of vogue, and now appeal to special crowd. Some like them, some don’t.

Also, with regard to the 505/506 cars, this code was not used until 1986 onward to denote the Flachbau option. 505 being US cars while 506 being ROW.
Prior to 1986, the Flachbau optioned cars produced between 1981 thru 1985 would be those that are sometimes hard to document. These cars were produced through the Sonderwunsch (specialwishes) program at Porsche. To further confuse this, there are even some cars that were officially converted by authorized Porsche dealers in the US using Factory parts. There are fewer of these conversion around than there are factory Sonderwunsch cars. Alan Johnson Racing in CA was one of the US dealers allowed to offer the conversions, and I have heard that Vasek Polak did also but I have no verification.

Thus, here in the US, the 1986 thru 89 factory 505/506 optioned cars I think are pulling out from being undervalued.. the others I think will depend on what verification can be obtained. Although, upon physical inspection by someone knowledgeable in Flachbau, it is not very difficult to recognize factory equipment from aftermarket.

    I don't own a Ferrari yet. I'm in shopping mode now. :)

Honestly, I'm obsessed with the 458 Spider. Realistically I'm not buying one this year, but hope to in the near future.

I am considering getting my feet with either a 328 or 348 Spider. I need to do more research and that's why I joined the site. I hope to find a local gathering of some F-Cars so I can check some more out in person.

Thanks for the warm welcome Mang, I'm looking forward to getting my first Ferrari. :D

Wow, what a great looking thread of 930s. It has been my favorite car since it was introduced in the mid seventies. I've been a Porsche lover for many years but have only owned my 930 since February 2012. You can't beat that kick in the back when it spools up the boost.

Do you guys think the option of selling a 2006 Carrera S X50 optioned for a 930 Turbo or a 964 Turbo 3.3 is a good one?

I've been perusing this site for info on Ferraris and Maseratis and just found the Porsche section and see some familiar names. I've been through a bunch of Porsches and here are some of my turbos.

    1st turbo. A 1979 930 #1176. I believe the car is now in Germany.

1991 964 turbo. Last seen a couple years ago at TruSpeed.

1986 turbo. Current a nicely modded.

yes if you like a more unfiltered and raw car. the 930 is among the greatest sportscars of all time...probably considered legendary by many. you may miss the plushness of the x50 but you may really like the directness of the 930.

high class problem to have in choosing :)

What he said....and I find the 930 'plush', even my raw '79 with the manually adjusted seats :D

i was just thinking that the 930's will eventually rise in value as they are such fantastic cars.

but...the biggest hinderance in the values rising is really indexed to owners themselves undervaluing their own cars. this soon to may change however :)

I have both an '88 930 Cab and a 06 Carrera S, and I love both. The S is a great everyday driver. The '88 has been the cheapest car I've ever owned, mile for mile. Bullet proof. Keep the '06 and buy a 930 as an additional car. You'll regret selling the S.
