SC Secretary of State has no record on their online database of EIS...maybe it's delayed in updating the system. And, EMI is still listed as active vs. dissolved. But again, the website may not be updated yet.

Sweet! My car needs a new muffler bearing and this new place can replace it... I understand it's an engine out service and the suspension and front part of the car need to be removed as well to replace it..

Like I said, I don't know what to believe. I'm just glad I didn't show up to a totally empty building; having to jump through hoops to get/find my car. Funny thing is the receptionist there also said that they were being accused of still being EMI; just fronting with a new name and new employees. Supposedly there's a Car show being held there on August 11th. They're looking for entries (asked me) :D

Maybe I should shut up until my car leaves there tomorrow. They could be watching. But then, Karl @ European Road and Racing contacted me today after he met with the owner of the ex-EMI building; said he'd make sure the car was safe until it was picked up. I met Karl today for the first time after I left EIS because I need work on one of my F355s and on my 550. He's PACKED with business!!!

See the growing thread at the original news link:

I'm Genyosai, of course. Someone here says that Chris was a pawn to his parents. If that's true; some parents!!

Another thing, the Jessica that responds out here is his wife. She reactivated their Facebook account long enough to send me a private message with all of her contact info and what I could do to get my car. She says she has left Chris; divorcing him.

Seems his parents are the ones MIA!!

    Sad!

For a good reason. He's the only man person that touches my 360 or any of my cars for that matter. Stop by the C+C in Mt. Pleasant one of these saturdays when you're in town. It's always nice to put the face to the Fchat avatar..

Boy with the Felbers and Mr Hedges, y'all have ALL the fun down there!!

+1 on the shell ploy Daniel. Glad I got my check. Anyone going to that location needs their head examining, no business closes and reopens that quickly with all the same equipment etc.. Caveat Emptor was never truer than here.

This thread is seriously going off topic.

But, I'll say I care greatly about sexual assault in or out of prison.

Some kid who gets locked up for selling dope needs to serve his time but does not deserve to be raped.

I can't believe I even have to say that.

From the stories I have been getting lately, I'm not sure how many of EMI's victims will be
rallying together to protect Chris' virgin cornhole.

Let's just pray that he get's his life together. He's still a young guy and could have
    decades of productive years ahead.

    Disclaimer
The above statement was written under the assumption that said cornhole is untouched!

Forgot about that extra what... $1000? job..

It struck me that the way that they did things up at EMI (considering the news last night and the TT that she bought for her son).. is they would hold the car "hostage" by doing an engine out or signifcantly disassembling the car. That way you HAD to go through with the service and it was harder to remove the car from the premises.
I recall hearing about 360 engine outs for trivial things... that shouldn't require engine out services up there.

I hope he gets things together and learns from this. I don't think things are over yet. I think there is more to the story.

Just goes to show. Keep your head down. Stay honest. Work hard. It will happen for you.

Karl is swamped with business. Tried to get my son's Rover in there for a look today--and apparently he is busting at the seams.

These other Johnny come lately boys . . . all flash and no substance.

Karl will treat you right--I think he has gasoline in his veins.

Of course you did not have to say that. I'm not for rape, just pointing out the reality of some potential unintended consequences, and to some people that have been harmed, perhaps what they would call poetic justice. And to expound on that point, I posted the article so especially you could see that there will soon be a committee to make sure this does not happen.

Hi everyone. This is somewhat of a strange first post, but I just wanted to chime in and tell my saga of dealing with Mr Felber and his mother.

For my step-son's 18th birthday, my wife and I bought him a beautifully restored '87 Porsche 944. We figured it would be something rather low cost, and he could get his feet wet dealing with an import and all. It was far from a thoroughbred like a 911, but certainly the name was enough to enamor a few young ladies for him, much to his delight. The kid absolutely loved the car to death, every Saturday morning he was in the driveway waxing the hell out of it to take it to some carshow somewhere around town.

The problems started when he pulled in the driveway after school one afternoon with the engine making a slight knock. I called Mr. Felber (I had dealt with EMI previously with my wife's BMW and my old project Jeep), and he sent a tow truck out to my house to pick the car up. I was soon thereafter at EMI with Chris talking about what the problem could be, and we came to an agreed price, along with the tow charges, to see what was going on.

A few days later, with the engine out of the car, the mechanic called me at work stating that a bearing had broken loose. I soon made it over to EMI where I was shortly on the receiving end of a very Kindergarten level explanation of what a bearing does. We agreed to start looking for a replacement engine until I spoke with Mr. Felber's mother. Somewhere along the line, the price we had agreed on was suddelny thrown out the window and had well over $1000 tacked on ex post facto. Attempting to pull a reason for this out of either Mr. Felber or his mother was either met with hostility or a flat out diversion. I firmly believe they pulled the motor and did extra labor to keep the car on premises (as stated in an earlier post, to hold it "hostage").

Needless to say, my wife and I refused to pay the extra amount that we had not agreed on. Phone call after call gained no ground on either side, and to this day I still have no idea what the extra charges were for (other than gouging me for every dime they could). Giving in eventually and making an attempt at being reasonable and getting things moving with the car, I offered to pay the original amount up front, as well as the added amount in increments (I was in the process at the time of mobilizing with my unit for a deployment overseas and did not wish to spend money I did not have to, reserving it for my personal travel expenses as I would be all over the globe for a few weeks). This plan was of course, met with more hostility on the part of Mr. Felber's mother, who would not budge.

Ultimately, about a week later, my wife and I came to the decision to let the car go. I advised my step-son to go to EMI and get all of his personal belongings out of the car, as we refused to pay them ANY money at that point. Once there, Mr. Felber's mother refused to allow him access to the vehicle to retrieve his property, even threatening to call the law on him if he made an attempt. I soon intervened and explained to Mr. Felber's mother that he only would retrieve his textbooks, as they were his school's property, and the Porsche license plate I had bought him.

This vehicle, from the moment it hit my driveway was in my step-son's name. It was paid for in cash and the title was transferred directly to him that day. Soon after everything had died down, we were notified of the lien on the title and that the car would be sold at auction. However, Mr. Felber's mother had made an attempt to place my wife's name on the whole ordeal. The judge who handled the case, dropped it, and her name was removed once she presented the title, absent of her name. The car was sold for parts for a few hundred dollars.

Now, backtracking a few years, recalling my project Jeep. I know EMI is an import shop, however Mr. Felber was recommended to me as a reputable "Jeep" guy. I was having a few minor issues with the transmission in my old Wrangler that I use to take the kids camping and other outdoor type things. I was away on another endeavor with the Army soon after dropping the Jeep off at EMI, and shortly after my return the Jeep was fixed and running wonderfully. Soon after the fiasco with my step-son's Porsche, I was travelling down I-26 when 5th gear in the transmission practically exploded, causing me to limp the Jeep home. The old POS has been sitting in my driveway waiting for a new transmission. It's still driveable, but only on short distances. They apparently did not replace parts correctly, thus causing the failure (another EMI "specialty").

Now, it was said earlier in this thread that karma bit him (Felber) in the posterior region of his scumbag anatomy. I can't tell you, sitting here in wonderful Afghanistan where good news is always hard to come by....I can not agree more. My wife notified me yesterday evening of his arrest. I honestly can say that I feel EMI under he and his parents are getting exactly what they deserve, and this old soldier couldn't be happier.

It wasn't my intent to write a novel this evening. Reading all of the similar accounts that are firing across the web about this guy, I just wanted to share my story, and if any legal action on behalf of the wronged customers comes around, I'll be sure to share my story with the judge as well.

ArmyDocB, Sorry to hear about the dealings with EMI.. if your son is around Charleston, C+C is always interesting.

    Regarding:

Someone else can chime in here.. but isn't it illegal to bar a person from their personal property? Doesn't he have every right to retrieve his car and parts from the premises? They can slap a mechanics lein on it.. but I thought that you can get the cops and retrieve your property from a shop. Am I wrong here?

While I'm not at attorney, and laws may vary from state to state, but I think that the legal term or concept for preventing you or your son from retrieving personal property
is called "bailment." Same deal if your car got towed from a parking lot. If it is "on the hook," the tow operator can't allow you to open the car.
