my 512tr has suddenly started to make slight popping sounds from exhaust when slowing down. It seems to be coming from the right side exhaust pipes and sometimes I get a puff of blue smoke at the same time. If i rev hard it seems ok ,no smoke, its at low revs slowing down, any ideas would be most helpful, many thanks

Do you have stock or aftermarket exhaust?

Along Ken's thought, you should initially make sure that you have no leaks in the exhaust system nor in the air injection system, if so equipped (and a leak in a cutoff valve will not be inspectable from the outside).

What version 512TR? Are you getting a "check engine light"?

Doe he have these bulbs installed ? Imo it is only in the US versions ... (There should be testbuttons installed at the ECU place)

its a Euro car, no cats fitted , test pipes , oxy sensor and thermocouples connected. I have now been told that you can hook up a diagnostic box of tricks to the 512 tr , so thats the next step, will let you know the outcome...........

no warning lights at all, its a stock exhaust, no cats though, seems to occur once the engine is at max temp, no probs starting or when warming up

Does it happen when you're light on the throttle or only when fully off the pedal?
Popping means there is fuel going in on deceleration. Normally the ecu cuts off the injectors on coasting, but it may not 'see' that on one side. My thoughts would then lead to a bad throttle position switch on that bank.
Also check the synchronisation left to right; if it is not synched, one side may not hit its full stop - there is a procedure for it in the manual.

No warning lights .......... that's because in the EU version you have no lights installed ... so that makes sense ;) (and do read the thread abaout the self diagnosis !!!)

Do fit these two lights in the cockpit and install the 2 switches as mentionned in my thread ... only then you can read faults in the ECU !
