The NB version of The LFA is a bargain.

Maybe the F12 GTO (or whatever they may call it) will eclipse the 7:12 mark - though perhaps there'll be an ACR version of the latest Viper that betters the last ACR's time? Either way, go Fiat!

Going back to the original question, no, the F12 is not a bargin. However, I believe a pre-owned 599 GTB is a bargin right now. Incredible performance, for a fraction of the cost of a brand new F12.

The F12 isn't a bargain because you can't buy one. The only people who will get an opportunity to purchase an F12 have already spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on previous new cars from the Ferrari dealership before now. With all the costs involved from other purchases the real cost goes far beyond what shows up on an F12berlinetta purchase invoice.

I still wouldn't call it a bargain at $440k...As I said previously, no Ferrari ever made at any point in time has been a bargain unless compared to other Ferraris. There is a faster, more reliable car available for less money than any Ferrari ever made, not just new.

Time will tell. The last V12's (550/575/599) hasn't performed well sales-wise beyond the first few years (at least in Europe).

The last few years dealers in Europe havent sold many 599's. I suspect its the same in the US.

the F12 a bargain at $400k? i think not. now at $25k this is what I think of a bargain. where every trip to the grocery store can be a road rally. what a blast it is to drive.

After all the years I chided my wife for being a target of Madison Avenue the tables were turned. When I saw the Super Bowl Abarth ad I was instantly sold. No test drive required. Sadly Catrinel Menghia did not come with the car. But it's the most fun car I have every owned. My poor GTC lost it's daily driver status.

I have been thinking about one for straight urban driving. How do you find the transmission (5 speed?)

I thought only limited editions like the 16M or the GTO and supercars like the enzo requierd previous ownership of many Ferrari's...

Any new series Ferrari model is scarce especially with Ferrari in so many different countries now. Some customers buy each new model sight unseen and always get an early 'build'. As a result there are simply not enough cars to go around in the first year or longer depending on the market area you reside in...

For around town the gearbox is fine......quick enough is how I would put it.

I was "informed" that to help get on the list for an F12 acquiring an FF would make a difference. That is kind of expensive cost to add in to the mix. Not exactly bargain territory.

I agree. On the road, in the real world, it would need a very able driver in an F12 to put distance between a 599 and an F12. Or should I say, someone driving recklessly and dangerously. In Uk an optioned F12 will Be £280k , a very good 599, 3 years old is £110k. Unless money is no object (and for some it will not matter) go get a 599 which is a great car, looks are still so elegant.

I maybe alone, but see the new styling direction on Ferrari is going very Japanese and without the drama of lambo. Will be very interesting to see the new Gallardo. The 458 coupe (I have a Spider and it is miles off the elegance of my old coupe) is sweet, the FF says nothing, and apart from the performance, is the F12 a looker ? Is the LFA so different ?

So bag yourself a great 599, enzo engine, stylish looks , now relatively cheap, reliable, and run it for 100k miles plus and get real value and enjoy. With the change buy yourself a few other cars.

Performance bargain is ZR1 and GTR. Nothing else comes close for the money. But a bargain is all relative to the size of your wallet. When I was in college the buffet a Cici's was a bargain. Go figure.

I own a 599 and it's a great car. There is a lot of difference between a 599 and a ZR1 or GTR if you can afford it. I just sold my friends 09 ZR1 for 79K as a favor. I wasn't even tempted. A 6 year old camry is a bargain. No one needs a 600hp car.

599's and F12's are on my don't-like list as well, both are just too long. As you say, Jim, that's a matter of taste. That said, with the greatest respect, IMO none of the mid-engine cars, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Lotus, et al. are as everyday comfortable as any front-engined Ferrari. I sat in the prototype 8C on the Alfa stand at the Paris Mondial de l'Automobile in 2004 and it's a wonderful car. A good friend here in upstate New York has one of the first 8C Spyders. Interestingly though, when Andrea Zagato decided to build the Carrozzeria's Alfa Romeo TZ, he chose to do so on a Viper platform rather than the 8C. He told me that he regarded the Alfa platform as having too narrow a track for the car they wanted to design. I wonder, Jim, that you don't use a 575M Maranello for daily driving. It's my favorite by a wide margin among the cars I have.

As to sex appeal, excuse me friends, there is simply no car, any make, any model, that matches Ferrari. Why? Because for two-thirds of a century the cavallino rampante has been racing automobiles, 83 years if you return to Scuderia Ferrari's beginning in 1929; because it is the third most recognizable logo in the world, seen on waving red banners by the billion people who watch Formula 1 twenty Sundays each year.
