Does any New Yorker out there know where's a decent (safe) garage near the Flatiron/Chelsea area (10011) that accepts Ferrari for monthly parking and doesn't require you leave keys with them? I am taking delivery in a matter of weeks and simply cannot find a garage in my neighborhood who would take Ferraris in, one that does wants me to leave my key there but promises not to move it. I have no home for my 458 :( I am very reluctant in leaving the key there-after watching "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" for the 15th time, I just cannot trust them not to take it for a joy ride.

One of the negatives of living in NYC.
    Please help!

The most important thing by far is to find a garage manager that will take care of you. I would suggest meeting a few in your neighborhood and telling them exactly how you expect to be taken care of. Then try this...tell them that if they agree you'll give him an extra $500 in cash on day 1 (have the cash in hand) and $100-200/month if he takes care of you and keeps the car in a designated spot that the two of you agree on. The extra $2000/year is nothing when you factor in the monthly parking bill and the peace of mind.

I've been parking daily in the city for 15 years (49th/madison, then 20th/park and now lower manhattan)...the same story in each one of them...provide some good predictable tips and the car gets priority and never has a scratch.

I do know some garages do not accept exotics, but quite possibly the personal incentive might help remove that rule. I know of a garage downtown near world trade (bad location for you and quite expensive) on Vesey between Broadway and Church that has (or at least had) exotic parking prices posted on the board...I'm sure there are many others...there will be a big premium, but I have to believe it is negotiable.

One other thing...I doubt that you'll got away with holding the keys...I get the feeling there may be some city code issue in case of fire or god knows what. Good luck!

It's not exactly close to you but if you're willing to head further downtown, the battery parking garage is self park and generally gets some decent cars in there scattered throughout. There are a few Astons and a few Ferraris under their covers. There used to be a Carrera GT and an SLR kept on the ground floor which isn't open to the public for parking.

EDIT: also, might want to try posting in the NY section as there are probably more New Yorkers on here checking that section than this one.

hey guys, i own a exotic car storage facility in new milford conn. i know its not in the city but if your going to drive your ferrari you are most likely to head north. we can arrange to pick u up and drop you off, all while your baby is in a climate controlled spotless facility for way less than what you will pay in the city. Plus we are about an hour south of limerock park! some of the most enjoyable roads in the state. If you dont have a home when your car arrives, we can take care of it till you find something closer to home.

I never thought keeping a car in NYC made much sense...no place in town to drive it. Yes keeping it somewhere close to a train station makes much sense. Hop on a train. Drive the car in the country. Park the car and take the train back home to the city.

Then again unless I could afford to do it right, I would not live in the city.

There's a couple of garages in my neighborhood (10001) that I think will let you park it and take the keys. I will inquire and let you know.

Hope to spot your around the neighborhood :)

You are more than welcome to leave your car at my home in CT ... but you MUST leave the keys. I promise not to let my kids drive it!

There are a few Ferraris in the garage of The Caroline on 23rd & 6th (garage entrance on 22nd). My friend has a 599 he keeps there and parks and locks with them, which sounds like what you are looking for. He still has to let them have a set of keys in case they have to move it for a number of reasons (some of which you would probably want, like a fire).

    10001. Between 6th and 7th Avenues.

Talked to a few attendants in the area. All said you have to talk to their offices or managements. But they all said you can park it and take the key with you. All they want is your number in case of an emergency.

today, my regular parking garage was full so I found a new one on 24th Street, between Lex and 3rd. It's called Automotion. Drive onto the pallet and lock your car. then, vending machine style, your car will be hauled off into its private space. There are only 2 of this type in all of NYC. Its very neat. Not expensive either. Highly recommended.

Nobody touches the car. And you seemingly do not have to negotiate those narrow ramps or dodge Lindsay Lohan parking her car. Win win!

I cannot find more info on Google about them for the 24th street location. Will call tomorrow, does anyone know how it works-not in the sense of the mechanics, but pricing etc. Do you have to be a resident of the 148 24th st condo in order to park there? If not, are you able to reserve a permanent spot and if so how much? It's not that big, there are spaces left?
