Another 550 cooling problem, help needed

Well it's hot in Georgia. Earlier today, I was about 2 hrs into a leisurely trip up I85, A/C was cooling really well and as I got off the interstate it quite cooling...got home...and found fuse 22 blown, on both the A/c compressor ckt and radio ckt, replaced fuse with A/C compressor off, radio works, cut A/C on, fuse blows. My guess is that A/C compressor malfunctioned and is drawing heavy current. Any thoughts from you guys. I picked up on a few sources for rebuilt compressors from earlier threads. Any specific recent experience with compressor replacement would be appreciated. Thanks, Doug
