Guy was way out of line, but the cop had a weird agenda too, no need to damage property like that, the banging on the a pillar was bad enough, why smash the door and throw his crap over the car

Does the NY police academy teach officers to place their body parts under a moving vehicle to stop it from moving?

 

I think the attitude of one guy stoked the fires in the attitude of the other. Generally, I don't have problems with cops, but I tend to respect that they have a job to do and that keeps me in the clear. I haven't had a moving violation in probably forever.

We all have a role on this green planet. If we could just at least respect what each of us needs to do, we'd have far less acrimony.

 

I had high hope for this forum but I see you guys are no different then everyone else.

Every person on this board has had more time to process this situation than the cop. Many years ago Tony Schwartz (IIRC) did an ad campaign for the NYC Patrolmen’s Association. The gist of the ad was it is easy for those of us not in LE to judge after the fact; however, LEOs are trained to make split second decisions. Most of the time, the police do what they are trained to do and respond correctly. Unfortunately, sometimes they do not. Hind sight is always 20/20. I don’t know what NYC police officers are trained to do in these situations and neither do most of you. Therefore, I can’t say he was out of line. The car owner on the other hand, was totally out of line. The police officer told him to stop. The, “he got to the car before the ticket was on the window,” defense doesn’t exist AFAIK. Maybe it is different now in NYC; however, in the late 80s and early 90s the, “getting to the car before the ticket,” defense only applied to towing offenses and not ordinary parking tickets. At that time, if they didn't have your car on the hook when you got to the car, they couldn't tow it. That was my experience when my uncle taught at St. John’s. I also think the, “sue the police officer,” responses are just pathetic. Unless you have seen his report, it is pretty presumptuous to say he is committing fraud.

 

Your saying he didnt purposely plant himself under that tire and cry assault afterwards? Maybe thats all procedure but its illegal as hell.
Say the driver wasnt rich to pay off expensive legal fees and pay the cop compensation, he could very well end up in prison and get raped because of the cops sneaky fraud.

Few people on this board have had the training that this cop was supposed to have had where they are supposed to be able to process the situation quickly and maintain control over it.

 

I found this shocking video of a Ferrrari 458 owner who ran over a cop in NYC.

Here is the camera man's story:
"I was walking around Soho, NYC today when I stumbled upon this Ferrari 458 Spider with a cop writing a ticket next to it. I started to record the situation because I thought it'd make a cool video, little did I know what I was in for. As soon as I started recording the owner of the car appeared and got in it. He slowly started moving since he refused to accept the ticket (the car was parked in a hotels valet zone and the hotel valet had the keys, I myself don't understand why the cop was giving him the ticket, it was approved by the hotel that the car was parked there.) The cop then told him to stop but he proceeded to move forward. Now at this point I believe the cops foot was under the front drivers side tire. Yet again the owner moved the car forward and apparently he somewhat ran over the cops foot (or at least that's what can be made out from everything in the video, others at the scene claimed otherwise.) This triggered the cop and he slammed his hand into the drivers window and proceed to open the door (notice how many times he bumped it into the taxi cab) and pull the driver out forcefully. The driver was then thrown on the ground and handcuffed and arrested. The owners girlfriend seen in the video is also Stephanie Pratt from the MTV hit show, The Hills. The car did suffer some damage, paint chips on the door from when the cop slammed it into the cab and some scuffs by the engine bay shown in the last scene of this video. Pretty crazy situation, I was definitely at the right place at the right time!"

This is ridiculous, it's insane how abusive some cops are.

it is equally insulting when they act like this regardless if they do it against a protester or a guy who owns a nice car.

Their only crime was to be near a sociopath in a uniform.

Ferrari mauls foot, cop sues

An NYPD officer is planning to sue reality star Stephanie Pratt’s playboy boyfriend Julien Chabbott for $10 million, after he allegedly ran over the cop’s foot with his $260,000 Ferrari outside the swanky Mercer Hotel this month.

Officer Felix Recio will claim Julien, 28 — who owns social media site Line Snob — tried to run him over in his flashy red Ferrari Spyder, injuring his foot, after he gave him a parking ticket in SoHo on Aug 4.

Recio has now hired lawyer Sal Strazzullo, who’s seeking to up the charges against Chabbott from felony assault to first-degree assault with a deadly weapon. Strazzullo said, “Chabbott clearly had no regard for Officer Recio’s life. Hitting him with his Ferrari could have caused serious injuries or death. I would like the charges adjusted to first-degree assault. I am meeting with the district attorney’s office next week to discuss bringing more serious charges.”

Queens resident Recio, 34, who is married and has a daughter, told us, “I was left with a swollen foot and bruising. But I believe he deliberately drove towards me with an intent to hurt me. I am suing for personal injury while the criminal charges are ongoing. I have not been able to work since this happened.”

Chabbott was with “The Hills” star Pratt when he clashed with New York’s Finest. The trouble flared after Chabbott jumped back into his Ferrari and started moving forward, allegedly running over the cop’s foot.

“I was writing the ticket. He got in the car, I told him not to, but he proceeded to take off,” Recio said. “He hit my foot, but I could have been very badly injured. I was just trying to do my job. He was parked in a no-standing zone, and he didn’t have a registration sticker, as required.”

Ben Brafman, attorney for Chabbott, who denies the criminal charge, said: “We are not aware of any civil lawsuit. Indeed, I would be shocked if a $10 million lawsuit is in fact being contemplated given the fact that we have developed information to the effect that the officer in question appears to have suffered no injury whatsoever.”

Could have died from the Ferrari? LOL! He didn't even have a broken bone...just bruising and swelling. What a joke...

This story is so absurd, it doesn´t even seems real!! First the 458 owner had a stupid atittude towards the cop, even if he was well parked, he should have talked to the cop and explained, not disrespect him and try to leave....but what the cop did was far worse....i mean, how can an imbecil like that be a police officer? That guy should be fired and if i ws the ferrari owner i would sue his ass for everything his got.
The 10 million story if it´s true it´s more unbelievable, lolo, i´ve been run over twice by a car over my foot and i never got hurt!!! And i can assure you guys, it was by something havier than a 458!!! It´s not pleasent but it won´t make any permanent damadge!!

He does realize that there is video of this incident? That anyone with a brain (perhaps excluding 80% of the litiginous NY population) can see his claims are BS. I think he's hoping for a settlement to make it go away. Absurd.. but predictable this would happen. Americans shouldn't support this misuse of the legal system.
