A pure guess would be under 30 cars. The transmissions were made in England and added 6 months to the delivery time frame when they were ordered new.
I seem to recall a Rosso Rubino USA example that sat at the dealer for a couple of years...

I thought the gearbox would be nearly the same?

Do you have more information about this topic?

Really don't want to come across as rude, but it sounds like either you had issues with your cars or your driving skills aren't as well honed as you perceive them to be? ;)

A customer back in 2006 always got a manual trans V12 Ferrari. He wanted to order a manual trans 599 and that is what Ferrari told him about the delivery delay being 6 months if he wanted the manual car. He ordered the F1 transmission instead and got this 599 in 2007 as seen below.
Didn't like the F1 very much as he enjoyed a clutch shifting car better so he eventually sold the 599. He wanted to buy back his old 575 manual car but it was not available. All he has left now is his 1971 Daytona coupe.
One of the issues that doesn't get much attention was Ferrari did the development work for the 599 with F1 equipped cars so the manual version didn't receive the development attention it could have used.

indeed ... the clutches have different engagement methods, of course, but i've heard nothing that indicates that the transmissions themselves (including ratios) are different, between the F1 and manual.

As recommended earlier, by all means test drive! You may LOVE it, as myself and many members here (including the OP) do :)

I have heard this exact same thing from 3 different sources each time I have inquired about trying to buy a manual 599. They say it's just not made for a manual which is shocking because, by everyone's admission, the 612 has a brilliant manual.

That rumor gets spread around a bit ... but whenever any technical details get asked about, there never seems to be an answer :( There's even an unanswered question or two in this very thread ;)

Compared to other cars that have been offered with both F1 and manual trannies, what about the 599 manual is "lacking" from a technical standpoint? My guess is nothing, given the number of very satisfied owners & drivers :)

What kind of opinion is this??

With that attitude I guess you prefer looking at xxx sites online instead of being with a woman IRL and that you would rather have a pill for dinner instead of eating at a 2 star Michelin restaurant?...
a lot of your posts truly makes me confused.

Anyway, I wish that F1 transmissions are made illegal so that other people can not enjoy them.
    (yes, that was sarcasm..)

I think that statement has a lot of merit. There have been posts on this forum of owners who turned in their manaual versions for various reasons The complaints ran from the shift mechanism being stiff and notcny to a heavy clutch pedal and a first gear that was especially tempermental. I have no experience drivng a gated version . But i did own an 07 F1 version for 2 years and i was told more tha once by both my dealer and Ferrari factory reps. That the F1 tranny was developed specifically for the 599 GTB and was never really designed for a third pedal. The 599 GTB is a heavy, wide ,luxurious and extremely fast GT. Personally I feel that putting a stick in a 599 is like putting one in a Bently. It was only offered to placate those who demanded an alternative. Ferrari sold so few of them that no manuals have been offered in any future model since. But like others have said. Drive one and make up your own mind.

so true. +100%. i never had a ferrari stick that was pleasant. bmw or porsche maybe but ferrari, terrible, notchy, clunky and balky. besides stick shifts are ancient history now that we have double clutch systems. thankfully.

    it is a valid opinion.
i repeat, shifting has nothing to do with driving, it is, was, a necessary evil. thats all. and now manual shift is ancient history. fun for old times sake but thats about it.

For every single legit complaint about the 599 manual-trans (meaning, from those who have actually owned or driven), there are several drivers praising the car. This simply wouldn't be possible, if the drivetrain itself was somehow flawed by design. Just count how many positive comments in this thread alone (among those with direct experience), compared to negative comments (among those with direct experience).

F430's with the F1 transmission outsold the manual-trans F430's by at least 4-to-1, probably higher. I would disagree that the reason is because of poorly executed drivetrains in manual F430's.

Negative rumors spread quickly, it seems, especially among those with little or no direct experience.

    the only question is :

how much more will the gated version be worth in the future ?

I appreciate the fact that you enjoy your manual 599. I am just saying that other owners have posted on this forum that they did not. These were not rumors ...Just other manual owners who did not have the same experience and quickly unloaded theirs. Like you and others have already said. ...Drive one and make up your own mind.

i hear what you're saying speed ... but it's not just me. My point is this : MANY more drivers here love their gated 599's, compared to those few who haven't had a good experience.

But we all absolutely agree ... drive before you buy :) Only by driving, will you have an informed opinion based on experience.

And yet there are other people, such as the OP on this thread, that have owned both the F1 and the six-speed, and got rid of the F1.

Were these 3 sources factory/dealer sources or were they independent? Did you want to buy new or used?

    yes. and the answer is??

to help with that, what is the total build number of the 599, all variations?

I guess the same can be said for steering, throttle and braking as well. They are all necessary evils for making the car go where you want.

And I don't see how an opinion of wishing that something (that you don't like and don't use) would dissappear so that others can't enjoy it is valid..

    LOL.

I still don't understand why some flappy paddle advocates simply refuse to recognise that OTHERS might enjoy a manual shift more and wish we could still order one. We all know that for economic reasons they're not available anymore from Ferrari/Lamborghini and many others...but what's it to you guys?

I bet that if we still had both available we would still have these discussions. What am I saying. We do. Just look at any old ''F1 or manual'' thread...!
