Sorry to hear, hope you are ok and nobody else was injured! Would be a tough decision to get a new 458 or wait for the road racer type version.

As long as nobody was injured be thankful. You can always get another car (Italia is a dime a dozen). Can't replace you though.

As far as Scud version I have heard nothing from my dealer. Before I ordered my 13 Italia in Feb. I thought about waiting for the 458 Scud. The truth is nobody really knows if there will even be a Scud version and if there are people in the know they aren't talking to people like us. Also seems to me that with the McClaren bumping their HP to 616 and Porsche expected to publicly unveil their flagship 991 Turbo within the next year, the time is right for Ferrari to do a Scud version with at least 600 HP. Also Lambo will be coming out with a fresh Gallardo in the next year or so. 458 may be world class, but the competition never lets up.

I strongly suspect the Scud version of the 458 will have a turbo motor....

Kers before Turbo for sure. The new Enzo will have Kers. Electric assist is coming on strong for extra HP boost and performance.

My guess is the 458 scud will have Kers and a boost to gas power of the engine.

When I was at the factory .I asked the plant manager about the 458 Scuderia and he pointed to a restricted area.I asked some questions about the Scuderia. The first was is it going to be a turbo. He nodded 3 no's and then said No!.The one question I didn't ask was Kinetic energy clearly that would make alot of sense.Since they already use it and they can get 100hp or more.I didn't even think of that till you brought it up.I'm impressed!!

My guess is that the 458 Scud will not have KERS or turbo. With the flagship F70 coming out with KERS they aren't going to spoil the show with the mundane 458 getting the same technology. Turbo seems too far overboard as the current engine isn't really optimized for turbo. I would guess lighten the car and tighten it up a bit and a new exhaust and engine remap to make it a bit more perky. Simple mid model upgrades for premium ROI, just like the last Scud.

I would agree with this. The basis for both the 360 CS and the 430 Scud was the challenge car and loosely the GT racing car Ferrari built for ALMS and LeMans rules. No turbos there. KERS was first and foremost developed for the Ferrari F1 program and is too expensive to introduce the 458 SCUD version but surely will be in the Enzo replacement.

But do not dismiss turbos in future Ferraris as Formula One is going to small turbo engines from 2014 onwards. Which means Ferrari is hard at work on a turbo F1 engine for the 2014 season!

    Fun times ahead!

This is my guess also. Carpets out, soundproofing out, lightweight seats, thin glass or plexi hatch, lightweight freeflow exhaust and remap to give around 590 hp with 100 kg less weight. Distinctive paint or stripe.

A guess only. Meanwhile the 458 demand remains high so the date may be later than we think.

I'll tell you why I think Kers (I have no direct knowledge of course).

    It's because of three reasons:

    1) The Mac. They have to go over and above. Mac can just turn up the boost.

    2) Green. Kers can be used as a hybrid and for Europe, I think it's going to be helpful in terms of PR.

    3) Scud resales last time. I think they don't want to repeat the drastic drop in Scud resale value. But, they still want to sell a lot of them and make some additional cash on the 458 as a swan song. So, they are going to make something really special and not just go through the motions.

It's just my guess but to me, it's most logical.

All that and add a 100k.I took a huge spanking on the sale of my Scuderia. They limited them to I think 499 then jumped out with the 16M and Kaboom
