So I am now just the same as one of those guys who waits 5 years until the CV joint on their Oregon Subaru falls out, before I call Click and Clack the Tappet brothers to ask them what the noise is.

On my F355 Spider, many years ago, I had the top and windows up. I hit a bump, and the windows rolled down one inch, just as though I was going to lower the top.

I rolled them back up and never thought about it again.

Until a week ago, I hit a bump, and the windows rolled down one inch again, but would not go back up (or down) for half an hour.

Last night, top up to respect the wife's new haircut, and the windows dropped an inch and now won't budge.

    Any brilliant ideas?

    Thanks, Jay

It's that little micro switch that's inside the header rail. It's located on the left hand side of the rail, in the little hole that the hood location stud fits into when it's shut. The switch just needs bending in or out a little. It's very simple to fix and you will see how it works. Stick your finger in the hole while the roof is down and windows up, then remove your finger and you will see the windows come down.

Sounds like you saw my wifes hot new haircut....

But seriously, I cannot believe that somebody helped me so quickly. I really appreciate it. I was going to start at the relays, then the ecu, then???

Thanks very much, you have inspired me to keep reciprocating with what I have learned.

Although my description of the location is very simple to follow, because there are only two hood location holes. And the switch can be clearly seen in one of them on the LH side top of the rail.
If no one posts a picture, pm me your email and I will send you the picture mate.

    hi there.

sorry, when i first checked, daylight was slightly reduced, and i couldn't see anything down either location hole...
anyways, after posting i went back out, stuck the garage light on and immeditely seen the little trigger down the passenger side roof locater ( RHD model )...
did wiggle it etc, but my windows still wouldn't respond, but i then put the roof up and windows working perfect, and again when the roof was down.
    many thanks to all help!!

    cheers

    iain

p.s this happened when i went over a decent bump in the road just like jm3

Mine did this at about 110mph on a German Autobahn a few years ago, scared the daylights out of my wife and I!. Adjusted the micro switch mr.steve refers to and the problem went away

I snapped a picture of the microswitch, down in the receptacle on the left front of the windshield header. (Drivers side in the US)

Thank you to Mr.Steve for teaching me about this microswitch, which took me 2 minutes to tweak to the right for a more positive engagement.
