why deprive yourself? in case ya missed it, it was the 'speculation'...the anticipation, the build up, the pages and pages of posts on F-chat...based on limited info, concrete info, bogus info, PRIOR to the official release of the Enzo, the P 4/5, the 458, F12, etc, etc, etc, that made the entire process so much fun for soooooooo many folks. your 'tone' seems to suggest that 'speculation' is a terrible thing. something to be avoided because we have so much to lose by engaging in a discussion absent 'published' data...data which also happens to shift over time. anyhow, whatever, as you wait for 'final specs', the rest of us will enjoy discussing and speculating...

Concept, but very very close to what will be offered. There was a dinner and viewing for some VIPs at the MTC last evening and it was confirmed they won't be showing the interior of the car in Paris, so it's probably purely a styling model for now.

The production ready, delivered, hyper Mac won't necessarily be the final spec. Take the MP4; upgrades come out constantly. The original F1 road car was available in different specs, such as the 680bhp LM spec engine instead of the stock 627bhp unit.

Can't wait to see both cars ;o)

I think everyone here has a general interest in both, though there may be preferences for one or the other.

My friend Mark Antar, who is studying to be an automotive designer, has given his best crack at unmasking McLaren's new hypercar with the aid of their recently released teaser shot. I believe he has done pretty well with it.

Well, according to Setright it's the other way around but let's not dwell on that.

Utterly gross and no way they would let that out of the factory

True, true, but he had some valid points. He hated cars getting taller. He was 100% right on that one!

    Yet he loved Bristols.

His columns were the best part of Car.

You have to be kidding. This rendering is no more valid than any artist's concept or schoolboy doodle. None of the edges are defined by the fluorescent traces, so you can make the car have any profile and openings and surface features you want. And some of the lines are going straight into the bodywork, which means his interpretation of what it could look like cannot possibly be correct. So what do we have? An amalgam of Lotus Elise, Porsche 918, and a few other conventional supercar styling cues, with some cheesy surface treatments and grills/openings bunged in for good measure.

All of this is predicated on the lines representing aerodynamic flow and pressure variations, rather than just flourishes from an artist's tablet. That, too, is not really something one should bet the farm on.

It's almost better than nothing, I suppose.

Zack - in the high res version of McLaren's image it is possible to see portions of the car besides the fluorescent traces. Those are what Mark worked from. Let's wait and see if he got anything right before criticizing his effort completely.

The guy wasn't speaking in German; he was asking the driver of the car in Dutch: "Kunnen we even achteruitrijden?"/"Can we drive backwards?".

    Cheers
