After a nice drive this morning I washed the car as usual but noticed a tiny chip in the middle of the windshield.I dont mind living with it as its so small but I dont want it to spread or have a bad result after a repair. Is it ok to leave it or will it get worse, and has anyone had any experience of having a chip repaired.

I'm probably jinxing myself, but I also have a chip in my windshield. It occurred during the previous owner tenure. But I've owned my 308 since April of 2011. It's located directly beneath the wiper blade. I did not notice where you reside, but I live in Vancouver, Canada. Our winters can get pretty cold. I'm always worried about my chip growing in size. But so far, knock on wood, it hasn't. Our roads are generally fairly smooth. But occasionally I'll come across a stretch of road where its bumpy. I just try my best not to travel too quickly.

There was a thread here on Ferrarichat from an owner who had tried an over the counter windshield repair kit. His results were superb. But luckily for him, he resides in Las Vegas. And according to his post, direct sunlight with extreme heat is critical for ideal results.

Try using the search function under 'windshield repair kit' and possibly his post will appear. And for some reason, I can't remember his name. Someone else here might recall whom I'm trying to figure out. I think his name was Viperpilot. Or something like that.

Anyways, good luck. Enjoy the ride.

    Simple, have it repaired. :)

I have done it many times to customers cars. Costs $50 to have an expert come to your house to do it. Takes around 20 mins from start to finish.

You will still have a little blemish there, but at least it won't turn from a chip into a crack.

Yup. The chip will turn into a crack eventually if not repaired but also depends on the depth of the chip... Cold will definately cause the chip to become cracked but extreme heat with the windows rolled up can and will do the same.. I live in northern Manitoba and a chip can become a crack virtually over night due to the extreme temp flucutations..
Sorry for the long winded post but reairs are cheap and they look OK if done correctly.

I had a small chip in my 328 glass. not really bad enough to worry about it getting into a full crack, but it annoyed me that it was there.

When My company car, had a huge cracked windshield, ARI our Fleet mtns company send out a replacement company that installs the windshield at your house... so in talking to the guy I showed him my chip, and he said - "oh yea, I can fix that so you will not even be able to tell.... cost me $75, and 30 min later.. viola... I forget where the chip was... you cant even see it anymore.

then back to my company car... new windshield was good for 3 weeks, then on the road again. bam!!! rock to the pass side another chip / crack... same guy comes out ... you can barely tell.... so I reccomend the guys that inject the clear resin into the glass under pressure... well worth the money.

Ditto. If you have full (no deductible) glass coverage on your insurance policy, most of the reputable glass repair companies will bill your insurance company directly, and you don't pay a dime. If you have a deductible ($50 or $100), you pay your dedutible. But in some cases, the cost of the glass repair in total can be less than your deductible.

Unless it's a really tiny little chip, get it fixed. If it shows any little cracks radiating from it, get it fixed ASAP.

Some Safelite will not do Ferrari as it's not on their Database but, some will do it but they will not guarantee if they break the windshield during the process.

It totally depends on the size of it really, it has to be "big enough" for them to pull the glue into it (as depicted in those repair photos with the UV curing light).

I have had minor blemishes that only nicked the plastic coating, and they could not do much with that. They do have to drill the glass, to pull in the glue into the ding.

WOW! I have Google Chrome and it spell checks my posts...woohooo! :D
    It didn't like that whooohoooo!

Ah, is that the "moutain drive" chip Tom? If so I remember when the stone hit the windshield.

The alternative is a new windshield and you do not want to go there.

Thanks for all the replies, even though the chip is less than 1/16 of an inch wide/deep with no cracks , I`ll see if my insurance will cover it.I was more worried about it getting worse .
