Great to hear Bruno's name. It's been a while. He and Peter and, later, Luciano looked after my Euro GT at Modena ever since I bought it in 1976. Lots of Bruno stories. He must've liked you. All I ever got was heartburn.

Bruno was a great guy & an incredible mechanic. I had my Dino in Monterey for the Ferrari National Meet in 1994. As I was trying to start the car the morning of the concours all I got was a strange rumbling, clicking sound and no engine turn over. I was beside myself. I had cleaned & polished my Dino to perfection and now I was going to spend the day either in the parking lot or the garage of an unknown mechanic far from home. On a whim, I called Bruno, all the while knowing that there was no way he could fix it from 400 miles away. He answered the phone, calmed me down and then told me to hold the cell phone up to the engine while my wife tried to start the car. When I put the phone back up to my ear I heard “No worry! Just turn thisa a screw thata way and it shoulda be fine.” I turned it and damn if it didn’t start right up. I had absolutely no problem with it after that, it started like a dream every time. I loved that man. Great sense of humor and an incredible amount of integrity.

When I contemplated buying my car, someone from the local Ferrari club recommended that I take it in for Bruno to give it the once over -- which is exactly what it got. He started the engine, almost instantly turned it off. Went to the rear, bent over and sniffed the exhaust pipes. Straightening up, he turned to me and said, "You buya dis car." I did (clearly, this man brooked no dissent), and the rest was joy right through to the present. I spent many hours laughing with him at his first place near Normandie and then over on La Brea. After he went to Alfa Milano, I still took it to him. And almost killed him, literally. He had the car up on a lift, struggling to drain the oil. Some spilled, and he took a major clown-flop onto the cement. His back had been giving him trouble for years, and I thought this was going to be the end of him. But he popped back up and brushed the whole thing aside. Impish smile. Indomitable. I miss him, too.

I recall stopping by Brunos and seeing one of the most impressive but understated license plates ever on a 1980's Ferrari, simply "ESOTICO"
    or Exotic
