Within the context of this subject/detour, it was as close to a lock as it gets.

Q: Did you not know that flick was going to be a huge success? Do you doubt the F12 well sell like crazy for years to come?

I don't have time to confirm the recollection right now, but I'm pretty sure the story goes that Hollywood knew the flick was going to be successful and walked away, anyway. That's the point.

I need to read these books...which one should I read first, "Fountainhead" or "Atlas Shrugged"?

Anthem is super short, a novelette.

Atlas is far better than Fountainhead in my opinion.

the audiobook is available on audible or itunes.

I wasn't sure if you one sets up the other book or not. It sounds like Atlas is the "platform" book. I enjoy reading, but the thought of a 1,000-page book (tough read) is quite intimating and time-consuming.

Yep, but I made it thru so I'm sure you can, http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=304626.

Sad/frustrating part is that the book could easily be 30%+ shorter and be just as powerful a statement and more powerful* in practical terms b/c it would be more widely read.

*By that I don't necessarily mean more accepted as gospel but more (hopefully productive) discussion/debate would take place b/c more folks would have read it.

I will, just slow and steady. :)

Is it actually a tough read, or just the fact that it is long?

I don't think it is "tough" in the sense of complicated, it just keeps on going and going.

Tedious is probably a better word than tough...though tedious can be tough.

That said, generally I agreed with the material so I didn't find the concepts tough to accept/grasp but someone with different views might find it tough for that alone regardless of the page count.

From everything I've read about Ayn Rand, I think I am going to enjoy it. :D

I'd read on Amazon that the audiobook of Atlas is 51 hours!

I'd read them in the order they were written, as her thinking was honed along the way, eventually reaching an unprecedented standard.

I think it is more like 63 hours. We are on disc 38 of 50 discs, and are hooked on it !
