LOL!! I just realized that I used the words "practical" and "Ferrari" in the same sentence!

No brainer - 6-speed Berlinetta over F1 Spyder all day long.... with all due respect to F1 Spider owners BTW :)

People are probably scared off by the mileage on the GTB which IMO a positive rather than negative but it seems to still be a (false) desire to have the lowest mile car possible. Plus, I would much rather by a high-mileage, properly-maintained car from a F-car mechanic than one owned by a music guru.

If you don't buy the GTB please PM me the contact information - thanks

I had a '71 Pantera (many years ago in the late 70's) and a 355 Spider (traded in earlier this year). Having the engine in the back is the only thing in common ... they are total opposites. I wouldn't get another Pantera, but I can't say that about the 355. The 355 was the only car I felt a little sad about letting go.

For me, nothing can beat the feeling of driving a spider ... but then, it would have to be a 6 speed. You mentioned you want a 6 speed and don't want a convertible, so maybe waiting for a 6 speed Berlinetta or GTS with lower miles at a fair price might be the way to go.

Good luck in your search, and in the mean time, enjoy your Pantera!

I don't think anyone hates them, I know I don't, I like them. I just like the GTB a lot more.

You seem to be looking at this from a financial point of view, so lets talk money. The coupe has all issues resolved - I assume you mean headers and valve guides. The does the spyder have either fixed? What issues have been caused by the two year storage? Add up the numbers to get the spyder in the same condition as the coupe, then compare with what you think the resale will be. If you keep the same f-car mechanic, he can vouch for it and some glow remains...

When was the last major on either one? Compression?

And yes, mileage that high will simply kill the resale value. Of course, a complete engine rebuild is getting close to the resale price these days...

It's your dream, man. Get exactly what you want. The coupe and spyders are pretty different animals to me, especially on styling. It doesn't matter what I like - what fires your rockets???????

Wazie,TR and a few others came out with what I was asking; is it too high for the mileage;seems many of you now say yes! NO doubt I'd buy it at $40K...BUT I know he has too much in it and I respect that; and no I do not like to offend folks and Casey has told me his bottom is $50K which I respect, as far as the Spyder goes, at $42K even if it needs $10K in overhaul based on the year and mileage the ads I have seen are in the $60-75K so I dont think I would be upside down , but I have to admit the 6 speed Coupe is more my taste, maybe as one suggested to wait for that combo in a lower price car, older year, etc. Thnx to all! If his bottom is $50k, he will keep the car (and enjoy it more, IMHO.)

The market is what it is, no amount of fchat dreaming will change that, ask me how I know.

You can find a great car at a fair price.

You will then have a fantastic car and can no doubt enjoy the journey with your Ferrari.

    That's what it's all about :)

What did your car sell for? You seem to enjoy talking down 355 prices.

Yeah, he wants to trade up to a 360, so I am not sure how this will play out but we all have a price for everything, and even for me some things are worth more for me to keep and enjoy than take a beating on a price, so I get that, dog

Not talking them down, just relating reality.

    My car (a very clean, 27k mi, red/black, no-issue F-1B) sold for a figure between $50-$55k.

That is the market, I didn't make it, I had to play in it.
Ask Robbie what he got for his 14k mile car earlier in the year.

You will find that fchat and reality are miles apart when these cars actually change hands.

The only 355 that is worth any real money IMHO is Luke's White Berlinetta, very rare.

Face it, no matter what you do you're going to lose money. If you drive it you lose money, if you own it for more than a day you lose money. You spend money to register it, you spend money to insure it. And if it breaks, more money.

RENT! You end up losing a whole lot less money and you KNOW what it's going to cost you. No more crystal ball.

Now, if you really wanted to own a Ferrari then accept the fact you aren't going to get all of your money back when you sell it. Same goes for any car, unless it's some sort of collector car, but then you wouldn't be here asking for advice if you were in that market.
