Has anyone on here upgraded the stereo in their car yet? I thought the Scuderia and 430 had poor sound systems. Front speakers just rattle when you turn it up to any volume.

I'm replacing those with the Focal Utopia's 165 W-RC door speakers, Audison Voce AV5.1K and a pair of small 6" DD subs in a simple enclosure. No holes, no drilling and no cutting so the car can be brought back to 100% stock.

I know a lot of you guys don't even turn on the radio but as much as I like the sound of the exhaust there are times when you just need a little stereo and the stock system is a joke for a car at this price range. Just curious if I'm the only one doing this?

Sad to hear that Ferrari still can't install a good sound system into their cars at any price :(

Btw: great information on what to install to improve the sound of the stock system.

What are you doing for amplification? If youre staying stock you want to make sure the stock amps can drive these speakers.

I am thrilled with the 458's premium sound.

I question the utility of a higher fidelity system in the 458. This car is not designed for high fidelity.

I'm using the Audison 5.1 amp. The subs are in a ported box behind seats. Really clean install and sounds amazing

Very nice!! Does that amp step down the audio out of the stock system?

Not an audiophile. Do you not have to consider the "environment" (acoustics)? Does this work only with windows up? I cannot imagine anyone "hearing" over the wind noise that naturally occurs with windows open (and maybe when the car is at speed).

Since Ferrari offers a premium system, did they "match" it to the interior or is it simply better equipment? Same basic questions about any upgrade.

Have you already installed the sytem and listened to it in your car? In no way meaning any criticism, just curious given the expense you have or will incur. Best

I'm certainly no audiophile but I know what I like and the stock system is not worth turning on. The acoustics certainly are not ideal but there light years better than my previous Scuderia was. Really don't have much wind noise with the windows up and the quality is amazing comparitively speaking. I'll post some pictures soon but it's done and I'm very pleased.

I am audiophile. The room or environment matters a great deal. Hard to get that right in a room much less a car. Also all the ambient noise in a Ferrari is tough. Sounds like you will get more base. Not lifelike music. All very subjective. If you like it that's all that counts. My 458 sounds better that my 430 or 599. A true reference system is difficult to achieve in a car.

This is absolutely correct. To really get it right, the acoustic space (aka "the room") really matters. The stock system probably suffers from a very narrow high frequency dispersion pattern and probably not enough bass to create a true foundation. Improving on both things should result in a more pleasing listening experience. Of course you have 3 "speakers" sticking out of the back... :D

In a 458 there really is no head unit.

Yea. I didn't touch the head unit at all. If you sat in the car you would think it's completely stock except for the box that is tucked behind the seats and covered in Ferrari Alcantara to match the interior.

No one has discussed the "premium unit". Why is it "premium"?
If the stock can be "improved", how did Ferrari improve it? It sounds (no pun intended) that all of this is quite subjective but those who care can tell even slight differences. Being tone deaf, I need the valves open on my 458 to "hear" the motor. Best

Hello, I just got my 458 Spider and would like to upgrade the speakers and amp.

Do you have pictures of the install locations?

    Also speaker sizes?

    Thanks in advance!

The standard system is appalling. Bad reception, tinny noise. A new ford fiesta would be considerably better.

I use my car, go for long drives and wanted to be able to listen to music in great quality. So I installed new speakers all round, 2 amps and custom built carbon fibre 10" sub. It looks far more clumpy in the pic than it actually is. All made from Ferrari leather, alcantara and matching red stitch. Sounds great . When you put the seats back down all is hidden and only when you peer through the front windscreen can you see the sub resting between the two seats. Best bit is it's all fitted with out making any drill holes etc. when I want to take it out and stick it in my next car it just unplugs.

Impressive! What are in the two smaller boxes on each side of the sub?

They are both amps hidden under leather and alcantara cases. One powers the sub, the other the speaks. It was really well done, very pleased with it.
