Yes, I did, there was at least 60 spaces overall, and around 10 cars sparsely around it. I parked in the middle of two spaces between two other cars that were parked, leaving plenty of room for my doors to open fully as I had two rear seat passengers, and the doors on the 612 are quite long so take some space when opening for access to the rear. There were around 50 free spaces around, and the guy had driven in, gone right past me, into the least parked area, then came back around, past me again, turned around, then headed for the half space to one side of the 612, then reversed towards the car. When I stopped him, he was six inches from hitting the car to the side of me, trying to go into a space four feet too small for him, even if he didn't have to open his doors.

The guy was just being a pillock and I wasn't about to let him hit the car. Had there been few spaces in the car park, I would have parked in one space, or even gone elsewhere had the space been inadequate to get out of the car confortably. I have to assume you aren't saying that I'm not allowed to protect my car from damage, and park how I wish safely?

To the cost question, I simply ask, "How much to you think?" Surprisingly, people are willing to throw out numbers! (Really. Try it.) No matter what they say, I reply, "Yeah, something like that..."

Seriously. A guy told me. . . not asked, told me that my Ferrari 308GTB is worth $14k.

    I answered, "Something like that."

East Indian fellow who runs my favorite gas station said, "I think a car like that is worth two hundred thousand dollars."

I answered, "Something like that." (Yeah, I wish! But I STILL wouldn't sell it!)

Seriously, if these people really cared about the cost of buying a Ferrari, cost of maintenance, etc., there are numerous books, magazines, internet sites etc. People who throw out random numbers just like to hear themselves talk. It's all inconsequential.

I wouldn't do it myself but I would have no sympathy if someone who took up two car spots had their car keyed.

Really? Wanton vandalism is ok, but parking in two spaces a cardinal offence. Wat a dumbass comment

It should only be an issue if he took the last 2 spots. Then I wouldn't blame someone for squeezing in next to him just to prove a point. But what idiot does that when there are at least 50 other spaces? Sounds like a jealous non car guy. As Babyboo said, I wouldn't do that either, in fear of retalliation from that jealous idiot. I always find end spots far away from all traffic. I even do that in my 12 year old Xterra. Coincidentally, the Xterra still looks new. A little prevention goes a long way.

I agree with both "BB" & "U4S"....having a "nice car" in by itself, draws attention to it, taking "2" spaces....REALLY draws attention to it.

In reference to VIZSLA's comment, for myself, owning a nice car & prideful of that car, does NOT mean the car owns me...taking "Precautions" to ensure my car is placed/parked in such a way as to prevent the less amount of possible damage...I view as being "Prudent"......Mark

I'm not condoning vandalism. When I said that "I wouldn't do that myself" I meant that I would not have keyed your car (I would not have taken up two spots either for that matter). BUT since you took up two spaces I would have little sympathy for you if some jerk were to key your car.

    Karma's a *****.

    See the difference?

My comment wasn't directed at you or anyone in particular.
And if it offended you I'm sorry.

Everyone takes pride in their possessions, if only as extensions and manifestations of their personalities. Perfectly normal.

As with everything else it can be taken to extremes and its a good idea stop every once in awhile and see if its happened to you.

Again my comments are directed at anyone in particular.

When the parking lot is nearly empty I see nothing wrong with taking 2 spaces.

Ahhhh, so you would have been a moron that laughed had they seen someone key a car justified by them parking in two spaces then.... What a great chap you are..... I hope it's someone like me then, and your little giggle happens just as I see what happened to my car... I would probably giggle with you as I knocked your front teeth out

I think some people are getting way to into thinking that Ferrari owners see themselves as above others, that's simply not true. I use the car to make lots of people happy, taking clients to their weddings, driving them around etc if they as interested in the car. If a car park is empty, I have a $150,000 car, why the hell wouldn't I take the opportunity whenever possible to protect my investment from needless damage

Last time I checked, I was a free man, in a free country, taking care of my own possessions. Nothing gives you or anyone else the right to judge how I chose to park, or where, or how many spaces, just so long as it has no effect on anyone else. In an empty lot, what the hell difference does it make to anyone else.

In the same car park, I caught someone putting a note on my range rover about it 'killing the planet' and calling me names. Since I live in a farming area anyway, it's not exactly out of place. I made him eat the note before he was allowed to walk back to his car, which was parked way away from the rangie. What made him bother?

People need to worry more about themselves and how they get on rather than what other people do/drive/think etc.

This comment plus the one where you admit to breaking some car windows suggest to me that you have anger managment issues.

You remind me of one of those hoodlums in "A Clockwork Orange."

Hahahahaha, I challenge anyone to sit by and let someone damage their car, whatever the value, in front of them and do nothing........ I can, and will, protect my investment. I would have thought someone from Chicago would understand the need for standing up for yourself. The whole town is built on a strong response to a challenge and respect for others

I won't deny I got extreme one time or the other chap, but in the McDonald issue, I simply told him to park elsewhere, and he became sensible enough to do so when he saw me. There's not always a need to resort to anything else.

As always in this thread it seems, I'm just feeding a troll, but hey, it's fun right? Jerry isn't on the tv anymore (i think) so you can't pop up and get in that crowd for your kicks. (I visited the show back in 1999 and blagged some tickets, had a lot of fun)

My car is, to me, more important. And a panel on a 599 is more expensive, and difficult to repair, than your average ford. But I wouldn't park in two if it was the last two spaces, I would park elsewhere or find an end space. You missed the point there was 85% of the car park empty

Hello Sid; I believe...you missed the point...if a parking lot is as you stated "85%" empty...Please explain the need for "2" spaces. I have a few nice cars & a daily driver which is a 2000 Ford Ranger Truck....economy model 4 cylinder, 5 speed, no A.C. or C.D player. I park my Ranger the same way I park my other exotics....repectfully in "1" parking spot AWAY from everyone else. If I am forced to park close to other cars....I look for other expensive cars to park next to. An owner of a $100,00.00 car is more likely to respect your car as much or more than a person driving a beat-up Toyota....Your responses seem to illustrate you have a perpencity for confrontation, as per your example of making the person eat the note left on your car. A note is just a piece of paper with words, it caused NO HARM to your car or yourself. Yet you choose to FORCE the writer of the note to EAT IT!!....you can contort & twist your reasoning (???) for your actions, yet it was a senseless, mindless act, of which you should have NO justification.....Mark

If you park in a space far away, you end up coming back, and finding that there is someone parked as close as possible to you. By picking two spaces between cars, and utilising them, there was no rosh of this happening - simple!

Why let people get away with their BS, taught him a valuable lesson, dont mess with other peoples lives, dont you see how much fun it was???

I'm trying to make sense of the above described incident. Two cars are parked on either sides of your ex-girlfriend"s Porsche, so closely that she is unable to open the door & get in, nor able to reach the window crank, roll the window down & crawl in. You arrive & are unable to open the door & roll the window down to get in. So you smash the two windows of the car parked next to the ex's Porsche to gain access to into the car by rolling down the Porsche's window. Please explain how by smashing the car's two windows, you gained ANY MORE separation between the two cars, that you ALREADY had???...How is it easier to access entry into the Porsche, hanging out of a car's smashed window vs being on the ground with the SAME separation distance?....Sid you look like you weigh around 17 stones (238lbs) not the smallest guy to be hanging out of a car window, in addition. How long must Sid's arm be, to reach down the TOP of a rolled up Porsche window & reach the window crank & roll it down, whilst HANGING out a smashed car's window???!!....I call B.S. ......Mark

Call what you want, I dont have a need to justify myself to you

The safest way to avoid door dings is to park your expensive car PERPENDICULAR to the parking spaces. Of course you'd be taking up 3 or 4 spots depending on the length of your car but, hey, as the owner of an expensive vehicle you're entitled to do so. LOL!
