EDIT: I do not disagree with you that some of my post have been rude yet that was never my intent. I understand that perception is reality and I take full blame for my past indiscretions, always have and always will. I do not think it is fair though that you imply that "I am full of it" or that I am "one of the most rude users we have right now".

Anyway since you feel that way I will pay more attention to my post and how they can be taken because the last thing I want to do is offend anyone here. I guess I should thank you for bringing this up so, thank you.

Tater wouldn't even crack my list of top 10 rude posters. Granted he doesn't post much in P&R where rudeness is expected and encouraged, but damn that's pretty harsh Rob.

 

As a physician in emergency care I am of the younger generation but work with a doc just shy of twice my age (I'm 34 he is 66) and I mentioned how rude patients are to us lately, and he said over the generations people are just more rude. Back in the 70's and 80's people appreciated physicians, now we are jerks unless they get what they want and we are targets of lawsuits if we are ever "wrong". People are becoming more rude and I think it is because most people are getting more disconnected from eachother and people are just so self-centered that they dont realize their actions have an effect on other people.
Its really a shame, rudeness just ruins days, but positivity could change the world

my point was not about who that poster was /is but on the type of response to him . and now we see this thread deteriorate into the thing it was not supposed to be which is rudeness. I thought was good civility and perhaps an honest debate but it seems feelings pounded on the keyboard are the first things to make this happen ... may I suggest we just go to emoticons content, forget the rest everything is going towards China so a picture is with 10,000 words dada yada

I also think being rude/using expletives to make your point is now popular/cool. What actually surprised me is this one time i went to Mexico to meet with guys we are working with on a project. One of them was using "****ing" in every sentence. I dont know if he is just rude or if it's because he learnt english recently/is exposed to movies/music.

 

I must sai that if i compare this forum with many others i have been, this is a very civilized place. Of course i´ve ocasionaly red a couple of stupid/insulting posts, but it was such a small percentage that it´s almost neglectible. I find many users here on F-chat are not easy to deal with but i can´t say they´re rude. I have a very diferent opinion from many on the f.1 section, and so far this as not been a major problem (on other places, i´m pretty sure things would have been very diferent). of course to maintain a "civilized" conversation, you have to think before you write, and be aware you are talking to people that sometimes have a very diferent culture. I refrain myself to make any political coment because if i did i´m pretty sure i would offend at least 50% of the american comunity!! It´s normal, I know most of the f-chatters are american and you guys have a culture a way of living and a poltical background that is totally diferent from most european countries. So, i stick to the car talk and so far i can´t complain about anyone. Also unlike other Ferrari sites, i never heard anyone sai anything bad about non-owners like myself. In fact, i find many of the owners in this forum, and many of them are guys that can buy literaly anything they wan´t, to be very friendly and open, not minding if they speak to a guy that will never be able to afford a Ferrari or to some other multi-milionaire.

 

One of the principles of a good board meeting, is "attack the idea, not the person".

Often, I see just the opposite, and possibly that is why rudeness is an abundant feature
in the world nowadays. Politeness, is going out the window, as are good manners and consideration towards others.
Be kind to ten drivers every day on the road and allow them to pass, when it's their turn of course, without thinking your manhood has been challenged, and people will wave, smile and think 'what a nice person, maybe I will do the same to others'.
Politeness is contagious.
What is the problem in that?

Why yell at the person behind the airline counter if the flight was cancelled? Certainly not the guilty party, yet it happens all the time.

On F-chat, we attack people for saying what they will, instead it should be the concept that might need correction. If there is an objection to a thought, theory or an observation, rebut that, not the person. Either say something that has sense, or simply skip it, no need to get the liver involved.

I live in a country where it is very healthy not to get upset, I have seen some extremely unpleasant situations. Believe me, you learn really quick to forgive and forget...

Andrew, perhaps he just lacks education. There always is a time and a place.
In Mexico, as in my country, at times coarseness does happen, not the norm, but more often with us Latins than in the USA.
You certainly do have a point though...

Clearly the individual had an issue. I live and work in Mexico for a US firm and have had innumerable English spoken sessions and have never seen that type of behavior.

While speaking Spanish people may be more prone to cursing. It is usually not a problem in professional settings but depends on the industry.

To your point I think in general there is a generalized lack of respect and individuals feel entitled to attack the next person if they feel no consequence will occur. On line communications just exacerbate the issue.

 

I wasn't implying that he was cursing because he was Mexican, but rather that his exposure to modern English taught him to use "****ing" as much as he did since it is so popular in culture nowadays. All the others i met spoke very good English with little curse use (we did end up going to a nightclub where Tequila was heavily consumed).

You make a good a point there. What I've noticed is that some words that normally one would not use in more certain exchanges get thrown around more often and are out of place.

This can be blamed on TV and movies. In younger generations this is also a problem.

 

+1 Posts lack tone (and body language). I think sometimes we as readers become defensive since words can be interpreted and the intended message does not necessarily get across clearly. Then the response unleashes an argument.

 

Probably because posts lack context. People interpret what was said through the filter of their understanding and all hell breaks loose from there. Were social media our sole form of communication I think we would all pretty much hate each other (often times, it seems like it when I peruse various sites). At least in person, we are all fairly decent towards each other regardless of what true feelings hide behind the mask. Of course, I don't know if blunt honesty is all that bad either...I'm certain there is some value to that even if only therapeutic. I've seen some pretty touchy subjects on here bubble up and simmer down with some mode of understanding produced.

If we could somehow bring together the restraint of interpersonal contact with the stark (sometimes brutal) honesty of social media perhaps we could get somewhere...

 

Because there is no digital fist popping out of the screen to punch you in the face when you piss someone off. Lol
