I got a cheap CFC202F from an Alfa 156. The design looks very similar than CFC201F but the PCB is less populated. The CFC202 has only 5 valves to manage (5 speeds + reverse on 3 "planes") while the CFCs for the Ferrari have 6 valves to drive (6 speed + reverse on 4 "planes"). Also, on the Alfa, the clutch sensor is a potentiometer while it is an LVDT on Ferrari, with a different interface. I got also a cheap CFC201F.01 from a 2001 F360 (#176552). This one still has the "old" processor (ZC439615MFT20) and a 29F200. The second processor is a ZC407326MDW wich is different from the one in the CFC231F. This H/W has proved not to be compatible with the address mapping of the CS software. I looked also at the TCU of my 2002 F360 (#193263). It is a CFC201.05 with a newer processor (ZC439619VFT25 idem CFC231) but still a 29F200 and the same second processor. Again, this H/W is not compatible with the CS S/W. However, it was interesting to work on those ones because I have been able to clone my 193263 into the 176552. At first I failed, until I discovered that duplicating the main EEPROM is not sufficient. Then it allows me to validate the complete procedure. Back to the CS TCU, it seems that 2 types of TCU have been used on the CS. The early type is based on the CFC201F.50 (cf picture). I don't know this hardware, nor the associated software, but I do know that the same H/W is used on the Maserati 4.2 M138 (http://www.ebay.com/itm/360406553661?_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649&item=360406553661&viewitem=&sspagename=STRK:MEWAX:IT&vxp=mtr). There is probably something to do with them also ... Image Unavailable, Please Login
Just ordered a CS TCU from the UK for about $2K. I'll let you know how it works out as I'm putting the car in to Competizione for a bunch of work in about 1.5 weeks...
My CS TCU arrived from the UK, it is one of the CFC231F.06 hardware revisions. My old TCU was a CFC201F unit. It's being installed and coded next week, I'll report back!
HUGE difference in performance. Much faster, positive shifts and rev matching on every downshift. This is the way it is supposed to be. I know they are pricey, but I'm glad I bit the bullet for the CS TCU.
Eurospares http://www.eurospares.co.uk/searchResult.asp?M=&Mo=&A=&B=&ID4=&S=196986&SO=1&SB=3&SM=&SMo=&O=0 It took about 3 weeks to get it and it was a hair over $2K US with shipping.
I have a CFC231F TCU reflashed with CS software and parameters for sale. I tested it on my own car and it worked fine. The only difference with an OEM CS TCU is ... the sticker! PM me for details ... Image Unavailable, Please Login
Nicely done Eric. I've seen these for $US5k. Mine came through the UK for 1200 pounds. For others, how much?
I can confirm Eric's reflashes work, he did one for me. I had a 430 TCU (CFC231F hardware) flashed to CS firmware and it works well in my 360. Thanks again Eric.
£1200 is Eurospares' price without VAT ... provided they can still get one from the factory! I ask for much less than that ... less being dependent on the cost of the used CFC231F TCU.
I purchased a cs tcu and had it installed by ferrari of Atlanta on my 2000 modena. They said the only issue was the car reporting am error due to the tcu not having an auto mode, but beyond that all works fine.
http://www.clubscuderia.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?48629-Upgrade-360F1-Gearbox-ECU-to-Stradale-Spec Software upgrade possible.
No worries Eric. Sounds like you have done a few more since mine then. Can the launch control be wired in a 360?
I did a few but not that much ... Yes, the launch control is in your TCU. One wire is enough. The wire and the button of the Auto mode could do the job. You just need to move it by one pin on the small connector of the TCU (remove the wire from pin 19 and put it on pin 18).
Does this work for the actual CS TCU that's been fitted in a stock 360? Would love to turn that useless Auto button into Launch Control, especially during the dying days of my current clutch .
Does anyone know the difference between a TCU version 191701 (dated 16.10.01) and the original F1 TCU in the 360 1999 onwards version 176552? I only know the 191701 has adjustable PIS, but is that the only difference or are the take-off/shift performance algorithms updated? i.e on the scale of 'early' to 'CS' where is it or or is the difference not noticeable. My car has the original TCU and I've picked up a 191701 for next to nothing. I want to understand if it is worth installing. I know I'll get a response re: install a CS TCU or the run out model TCU (211053) but in the UK they are £1500 plus. I'm not prepared the pay that at the moment. I've better things to spend my money on. Another option could be reflashing to later software as the hardware version on the 191701 is the same.
Same question...? My 2000 model year car already has a 191701, dated 11.04.02 62000.023.01, cfc201f.05, mym16b39, Ferrari f131 my00, x401pc42. Being a new owner, and nothing to compare to, the car seems to shift quite nicely, especially in sport at redline.....and I was looking at a upgraded TCU.... Do I already have what I need, good enough ? BTW, clutch is new, 600 miles. Eric ?
Bert, Interesting? So far I has chosen not to fit the 191701 TCU as after a bit of digging came to the conclusion that it was superseded for MY02 cars and it from MY02 onwards where the better software was used. As your TCU is dated April 02 and it has to have been changed due to your cars model year I'm not so sure know unless it was bought as a spare part. My car has a very soft pick-up with the original early TCU and at the last service the non-adjustable PIS was at 6.1 which is very high. Saying that the car drives very well. M
