Strewth, can someone from over there buy the thing so he doesn't destroy it!!

If it is the cab,how much did it go for(I haven't had a look yet)?

The seller of the red spyder on eBay told me at the time that the deal he had made with the buyer was for $28,500. Here's my post on February 6: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showpost.php?p=141189820&postcount=13 We may recall that this seller, in the Cleveland area, was also simultaneously offering the complete car and the engine in separate eBay listings. If this is the same car, it's an odd coincidence that it should suffer the same fate twice.

June 9, 2012: "This listing was ended by the seller because the item is no longer available." http://preview.tinyurl.com/7hkc6np . Starting bid: US $9,999.00, -0- bids. I wonder if the time ran out on the auction, if the seller decided to keep his 400i intact, or if the seller sold the engine outside eBay.

hi everyone.the mystery of this car is unraveling.i did sell the engine outside of ebay.i now have a perfect convertible to drop in an LS3.direct bolt up to the gm trans.as you know,i paid 28,500.im now in this car at 18,500,plus shipping.someone got a great deal on the engine, but it is my intent to make this car into a so called jensen interceptor.great looking body, with an american drivetrain.i have old corvettes, panoz esperante, shelby series1.best,stuart

I will shed a tear at the loss of a V12 survivor Ferrari. If your motor will put another F-car back on the road that would be a zero sum result. Is this the case?

Regardless, swapping in one of those E-Rod LS3s has its advantages too. 6.2 liters, 430 hp, 424 lb-ft. http://www.newgmengines.com/e-rod_ls3_crate_engine.html They seem reasonably priced at $8,225 delivered. That should give you a solid 13 second car. I wonder, though, if you won't lose a little top speed, since the Ferrari V12 can probably top out at a higher rpm than the Chevy. That would be ironic.

In chasing parts for my LS1 2004 GTO I came across this shop in Morgan Hill CA (south of San Jose) that does a lot of LSx swaps into old muscle cars. If you haven't picked a shop yet you might give them a look. http://www.pacificfab.net/# Here are some pix of the E-Rod kit. Theoretically anything is a do-it-yourself project, but this one might benefit from expert assistance.

Beats no engine. As sacrilegious as the idea may be the LS powered car will be a technical improvement.

im actually putting in the ls3 now.i also bought the new 4 speed automatic transmission,to handle the power.i am now selling the automatic that came with the 400i.it worked fine, but gm didnt advise it.i will sell that for $1000.i will also sell the ac compressor for $500,as i need the gm one.the only problem is that i never used the ac,so i cant say if it worked or not.lol.

Hello, please provide us some details and pictures of the new transmission hooked up to the torque tube. Thanks, I think some owners would live to see this.

Without a Ferrari engine, it is merely a Pininfarina. Which is not a bad thing by any measure, but it's no longer a Ferrari.

It is generally accepted that the chassis is what defines what is a Ferrari. A Ferrari engine in a Corvette does not swap its identity and nor does it when the Corvette engine goes in the Ferrari.
I see the point of Frankensteining a car to reach a certain goal, it will make this one more economical to run and usable - and yes you can question resale value and even taste, it is however the owner's car, and it can be argued it wasn't original anymore to begin with.

Personally I would have kept the old hardware with the car, though.

well said.i just own 2 seaters now, other than the 96 porsche 993 cabriolet.i was looking for a classic 4 seater convertible.my only choice was a jensen interceptor or a mondial.lol.when this 400i cabriolet came my way,i decided to take a gamble on it,and do it my way.we will see how it comes out.it should be finished this month.i will let everyone know if i screwed up or not.best, stuart

Stuart I think you already did screw up but it's your car and your money. My seats are yellow and I like it, so I'm not a '100% originalist' either. Stange thing to take a Ferrari and make it into a replica of something else, but I am curious to see the result and one less 400 makes my old Lady more rare :)

    Good day All,

It looks as if the project has stalled ... If this is the case then the separating the original engine from the car was really unfortunate...

Value of the Ferrari now hurt by the lack of the original engine. Not a bad looking car either.

Once again no transmission swap, I don't think it is possible with out a lot of fabrication work.
