OK, maybe a stupid topic with about 10 thousand (or 10 million) on the road, but was wondering if there are any future gems out there. The only thing that comes to mind is the Balboni Edition (250 cars), but is that distinctive enough?
I would think that a model of car that had a low total production number would be much more valuable and collectable verses a special edition run of a car that is produced in high numbers. While I can see the desire to collect the rare car, does adding some special badging and paint to a high volume car really make it special? That type of thing for me seems to be more of an artificial collectable created by the manufacturer just to sell more cars. To each his own. Nothing wrong with it if that is what you like.
I think a white Superleggera will be the most sought after followed by the Balboni cars. I could be wrong but I think there are only 8 of the white Superleggeras left.
I believe in the far off future, manual shift Gallardos, particularly '08 Superleggeras, and LP560-4/LP-550-2/LP570-4's will be the most desirable examples of the breed. E-Gear Balbonis and other "special" Gallardos won't be any more valued than "standard" E-Gear cars. It will be the three-pedal cars that bring the enthusiasts, and therefore the money. V-Twelve is right though, in the future the most valuable Gallardo would likely be a White '08 Superleggera with a manual transmission... if such a thing exists.
I don't see the Balboni bringing a premium compared to standard trim LP550-2 units. It's a stripe, and a tiny plaque with a name on it, that's all. Yeah, the Manual Balbonis will be more valued than the E-Gear units, but not as much as Manual Superleggeras, which are much more focused cars and actually differentiate from the standard cars. In 30 years time I believe the pecking order will go, from lowest to highest... '04/'05 Standard car E-Gear '06/'08 Standard car E-Gear (Incl. '06 SE, Nera) '09/XX LP550-2 E-Gear (Incl. Balboni, Bi-Colore, Monochrome, Red Edition) '04/'08 Standard car Manual (Incl. '06 SE, Nera) '09/XX LP560-4 E-Gear (Incl. Noctis) '08 Superleggera E-Gear (Except White) '10/XX LP570-4 Superleggera E-Gear (Incl. Super Tropheo Stradale, Blancpain) '08 Superleggera E-Gear (White) '09/XX LP550-2 Manual (Incl. Balboni) '09/XX LP560-4 Manual (Incl. Noctis) '08 Superleggera Manual (Except White) '10/XX LP570-4 Superleggera E-Gear (Incl. Super Tropheo Stradale, Blancpain) '08 Superleggera Manual (White)
maybe 570SL Verde Ithaca and orange 550/2 Valentino Balboni: or at least those two are my favourires! ciao
It don't think it will be my Performante... because I plan on driving the wheels off of it in the next couple years
I'm sorry, i forgot the spider Performante: the best looking spider supercar on the market. Sure it's the best looking Gallardo ever: if one day Gallardo will be collectable, sure the Performante will be at first place. Then the 570SL and the Balboni. Have an happy couple of years with your Performante! Look out your wheels... and post some pics... ciao
Great cars, but i don't see any of the versions standing out and becoming collectible. I think 20years from now the ones that will stand out are the ones that are unmodified with good maintenance records.... maybe a less popular color. If one might have a very slight edge imo it might be the Balboni. Especially since the man obviously wont live forever.
That is correct. I am referring to the original 10 built in 08. I think there are a larger number of white LP570 Superleggera as white seems to be the only color I see them in.
IMO the only G car to hold value in the years to come will be the STS... A TRUE enhanced production car that is numbered and is a HANDS down better G then even the 2011-12 LP570-4SL...600HP plus, just not advertised..a true track car for the street.. It, IMO...is the last of an era..just as the LP670-4SV is to th flag ship cars.. ONLY avalible in three colors..and mark my words..WILL NOT have 150 built, just as the 670-4SV, suppose to build 350..but ended up with less then 170 units.. currenty less then 90 STS cars built..and I think it will be at end, less then 100..as 2013 cars (same as 2012 cars) have now hit all the Dealers floors and are waiting to be bought........ Being on my third STS car..it is an amazing machine..PERIOD!
There are two white 1st gen Superleggeras in Singapore, both E gears & went through my friends. Nothing special about it except the color & it's just normal white IIRC. The only positive thing is they are RHD which is not that great since there's a smaller market for them.
I totally agree with regard to the white ones. I own a 2008 white superleggera and there are only 9 left. I don't know whether the 10 white ones produced were worldwide or USA. I wish someone would let me know. Also, in 2008, there were only 172 superleggeras produced. So, it's a pretty rare car too and the white ones, super rare.
