I believe that when the concept originally came out they stated that stick shift would be available. http://m.leftlanenews.com/jaguar-f-type.html. Edit: jaguar confirmed with car & driver that a manual will be offered
I was at the Paris auto show last Sunday, and I can confirm that the F Type is as stunning in the flesh as it is in the pictures, probably more so. The V8 model F Type will certainly be a lot less expensive than a Ferrari California, and much better looking, IMHO. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
I think it looks fantastic, but every time I see a picture my mind instantly thinks Maserati Spyder, that's not a bad thing either.
It looks very nice in photos -- hard to say 'stunning' but will wait till I see it in person. The tail looks a bit Z8-ish, which is meant as a compliment. IMHO, the new BMW Z4 and Porsche Boxster (981) have both raised the bar in terms of modern roadster style. The California badly needs a redo -- even the normally awkward 911 cab, with its 991 restyling, doesn't look as tail-heavy.
Both the Porsche and BMW are certainly nice cars. Mechanically, they are tough to beat. That said, IMHO, the Porsche looks like a cross between a Miata and an SC430 and the Z4 is beginning to show its age.
+1, I was looking at a 991 cab earlier today, and was quite impressed with the lines that the car had with the top up.
Really? The new Z4 is a stunner (and I didn't love the last one). Also love the new Boxster with the sculpted doors and 918-ish headlamps. (The SC430 is hideous, IMHO.)
As a jag fan and xke owner, this doesnt get me very excited. Just another slk type cruiser car. Hope im wrong but new boxster seems class of the field
Spoke with my dealer today. He said to configure the car online, email him the link and he'd let me know when they will start accepting orders. At that time, I would be at the top of the list (well, actually around ~11) and the car would be ordered with a deposit. I think it's going to be quite hot, and the pricing for the V-8S shouldn't be too much for this poor boy to handle, so....... I did as he instructed
I dont think it will attract much calif (or any other ferrari) cross shoppers. Xkr would maybe have a chance. F type competes with boxster, slk, z4 type cars
That was my thought as well. It's less Jaguar-ish than I had hoped, at least from the photos. You're right on the Boxster -- it lost its baby fat and looks long and athletic now. I agree, but the California has more badge.
A well-optioned F-Type V8 will be north of $100k. I don't see it competing much with the Boxster or Z4, as it will be with the V8 Vantage, as well as used Gallardos and F430 models. The V6 models will be competing with the Boxster S, Gran Sport, and similar cars in that price range, but I see the Jaguar having worse depreciation. The V6 models will be seen as "base" models and drop like a rock once initial demand is satisfied and the car is no longer the latest and greatest. 2014 in other words. The V8 is the car to have if you can afford it for sure. Having nearly 50% more power than the base V6 will probably be a very different drivng experience. I dare say nearly everyone who spends $70k on a base V6, and especially those who fork out $85k for the V6-S will wish they had stretched to the V8 for the extra power.
Yep. The V8's Jaguar is producing these days are just GREAT engines. Wonderfully smooth, yet muscular feel, great sound, plentiful torque, and love to rev. .
Correct on the weight issue - it really should not be more than 3350 lbs to be appealing. I read in R&T that when the V8 and coupe come along, a traditional manual gearshift will be offered. This is really starting to look good to me if it can be done (the V8) at Porsche 911 pricing.
I agee with that. My wife owns one, but we won't tell her.[/QUOTE] SC430: otherwise referred to as "the hairdresser's car"
My dealer said that while they haven't confirmed pricing, that a fully-loaded V-8S shouldn't be too far north from $90k. He's actually thinking $80-$90k on the V-8S. We shall see.
