Woah! With that information I wouldn't buy that at any price. Sounds like it is best for parts.

I just wanted to post the vin # ZFFXR41A9X0115887 so who ever does a google search on the vin may stumble on this thread. They fixed up the car a bit but the valve guides need to be done and 3 cylinders on the car have low compression. BTW the car was hit very hard in the rear and the front. Warning stay away from this car.

1999 6 speed GTB is incredibly rare and doesnt follow the rest of the 355 market. It will always go for apremium. I wouldnt be surprised to see this become a 6 figure car in the future.

Note: thats if its in great shape which this one may or may not be

This car is a pile of crap that someone is trying to flog. There are so many things I can see in the photos alone that would make me stay away from it never mind the engine problems. If this color combo is so good then why is it rare? Its rare because nobody ordered it and it only suited a few buyers.

I'd buy it at anything below $30k, it'd be a great driver/track toy for that price. Chances are that with some running the compression/leak down will come up a bit, seen this before on engines that sit.

eBay shows the car to be located in Texas. Those photos where not taken in Texas. Are the eBay photos old ones from a previous sale?

Hi all! my name is Tom and i was the one who bought this car off of ebay on 1/19/17. Since this is my first Ferrari, this is also my first post (been trolling FerrariChat for years).
I had a basic PPI done which came out good, with no compression/leak down because the PPI inspector said it felt consistent with other 355's power and response wise (maybe a mistake based on this thread).
I didnt stumble on this thread until AFTER i bought the car, lucky me.
the car does feel good and the body looks nice even with my pickyness level. I am going to be pulling the engine for a major and ill inspect the inner sheetmetal when i do this.
In the end i am a DIY guy and i want to work on the car myself and drive it. i dont care about putting mileage on it or keeping as an investment. im just going to enjoy it. im hoping the compression/leak down issue mentioned is from carbon buildup. im going to run some intake cleaner through it and romp on it/daily drive it, then do a compression leak/down and see what i get.
i obviously wish i would have seen this thread before the purchase, but ill make the best of it!
    Tom.

Congrats on the purchase. :) Looks nice,

You have been hanging around long enough to know not to believe 2/3 of what is posted on this forum anyway.

You'll be fine with the car and the engine and everything else. Enjoy the car, the driving & the journey.

What is often considered a bad leak down or compression test on a 355 is like a pimple on a swimsuit model's butt. On any other woman (car) you wouldn't worry about it.

let me try that again. Driving a 355 is like getting laid by a swimsuit model. What is often considered a bad leak down or compression test on a 355 is like worrying about a pimple on her but.

Congrats on you purchase. Enjoy the ride.

    Perfect analogies guys.

i have no doubt its been wrecked before, based on the carfax/autocheck reports. i paid way under current 2017 market value for an F355, so im overall happy with the purchase fully expecting some things to pop up. there are a handful of small things that need fixin' but ill take care of it all over time.

I had yet another conversation with my PPI inspector and he saw no evidence of frame repair and the alignment was on, so i didnt care after he told me that. Im sure there was some sheet metal damage in the wreck but like everyone says...butt pimples on a super models ass...which i can live with.

i race a nissan 350z and after our engines sit for a few months it seem we always have higher leak down when the engines sit even after warm up. sometimes we have up to 20-25% leak down and it clears up after a few blasts with cleaner or a few races.

I know this car. I saw it in person. I believe it has damage in the front, so check that. Maybe slightly hit in the back and hopefully it was just bumper damage. I do know the whole car has been repainted. It was a nice car and presented well, but I still saw odd gaps in the front. It looks 'fixed' now. Engine wasn't even running or running great, but I think that seems to be taken cared of. I always thought the car was cleaned up well, but always had a high asking price for its history.

Nice anniversary edition Turbo II FC btw. I think it is natural for FC guys to like 355's :). My first Rx7 was a Series 5 Turbo II.

thanks for the input. here are a few pics from the PPI location with good lighting. its still dirty. if they did repaint the whole car it was a good job, so i dont really care about that. ill inspect the front end a bit more...
You are right on the 10th ann. i think its the pop up headlights and just the overall look of the car that im attracted to which translates well to a 355.

I personally didn't see anything unusual about the paint job and it looked very nice. But I also didn't inspect the paint closely. I just know the previous dealer named Bo told me he had the entire car painted.

Lot's of similarities between FC and 355 although the FC came much earlier. Interior kinda looks the same and even the seats almost look the same :).

Flip-up headlights was a great era for cars. Nowadays, cars come with funny cartoonish faces.

i had a super nice FD recently but sold it because i liked the FC better...wierd, right? the seats definitely resemble each other for sure, they are almost identical and that was something i almost immediately noticed. Im slowly making this 10th ann a better car, but it takes money since these cars are hard to find in nice shape and parts are expensive believe it or not.

That silver with black challenge grill and red calipers looks amazing. One of the better color combos for a 355 imho.

    Congrats on the purchase.

Thanks! I wanted a less flashy f355 and silver is the perfect color for that. I'm also going to be almost daily driving it and silver looks good even when dirty so its perfect for me!
I've wanted one since I was 15 and 20 years later I got one. I'm about to do a 30k service and can't wait to dig into it!

Rotary engines are definitely unique and really cool in their own way, just like a Ferrari engine! My 10th needs a few things but it will get there. I'm a little distracted on the 355, they are so beautiful in person...pictures never so them justice.

Congrats! I also looked into buying this car, but the seller wanted $120K. You got a great deal for what looks to be a great car now. Enjoy!!
