    Hi Guy's

    I need some help locating parts for a 330GT 2+2 Series I 4HL.

I have just bought what's left of the car after it was skinned alive to build a 250 replica. AAAAAAAGGGGHHHHH!!!

I'm trying to do something that I'm not sure that anyone has ever done, rebuild the 330!

I know it'll never be the same as before it was parted out in the originality stakes, but hey it's still a REAL 330, not some replica!

It's also an original Factory RHD car so reasonably rare in the first place.

Ok, so now I've appealed to your morality, can anyone help?

Below is a list of parts I need. (car is a 65)

    2 x complete rear lights
2 x complete front side lights (below 4HL)
    2 x Door handles
    2 x Door locks
    2 x complete door catches & latches/assemblies
    2 x Bonnet (hood) hinges
1 x complete bonnet catch/lock mechanism (underside of bonnet & bulkhead)
1 x boot lock & catch assemblies (as bonnet)
1 x windscreen chrome trim surround
1 x rear window chrome trim surround
2 x Door glass, frames and lifters
2 x door internal catches and levers (all I have is lower main door cards)
2 x door cappings (bottom of windows, top of door cards)
2 x rear quarter window opener catches (I have glass with holes for catches only)
1 x chrome Grille panel (fits on scuttle between wipers)
2 x chrome sill trim strips below doors
2 x chrome trim strips rain gutters on roof.

    And that's just for starters!

Oh, and a parts catalogue/manual if anyone has one?

    Kind regards
    Darren

Don't have any parts, or leads (sorry!), but just wanted to say:

THANK YOU for saving one of these cars! Glad to see it all didn't go to the scrap heap when it was used as a donor.

    Thanks Andrew,

It is a thing of beauty and deserves to be saved. The 330 was in pretty much concours condition before it was raped. I cannot get my head around why someone would do this to a RHD car that is in SUPERB condition. Pure butchery! Makes my blood boil.
So much so that I just had to save it.
I hope others feel the same and search out any old boxes in the attic or garage for parts to help me "do the right thing"

What are you going to do about a chassis, engine and drivetrain?

One lleh of a project there buddy...

Answering the above question might be a bit tricky, so be careful.

If I were you, I'd go buy the replica and delight in its destruction to resurrect your car.

In a strange reversal, Darren is going to use the chassis, engine, and drivetrain from an actual 250 GTO.

    - but I consider that both a good thing and necessary!
I trust you have one of Ben Bernanke's favourite device in your lock-up?

I'm merely putting a good running, relatively solid car back on the road and I expect to spend $30K.

You my friend have my deepest admiration.

You should register your car at Kerry's site 330gt.com and you'll be able to download a parts manual and many other things. Then you might want to go looking for a doner car as to buy all the parts you might need could be very pricey, even if you got this carcass for free. There's a guy on here, scott aimis, who cracked up his 330, 5409, and then let the insurance company total it. It's a good car that has been floating around in the same state with endless yahoos ever since. And I've seen a few other more basket case 330's lately even in the Uk, so perhaps ask Kerry. Or just start adding up the prices for the parts you need and then ask Kerry.

    Good luck!

PS. Glassman, that is a good spare body that has just been saved from becoming wall art. Tom S will probably have a wreck that could provide everything needed (well, maybe not the drivetrain).

    Dear Darren,

What a worthy project! When I am back in England in two weeks I will check what I have but I believe it includes (occasionally I suffer from 'brain fade' so please bear with me):

    1. a bonnet lock mechanism

    2. a rear window and a front windscreen (in case you need one)

    3. a front bumper

    4. and a few other bits and pieces

    Where are you located?

    Regards,

    Anthony

    Thanks Anthony,

I am a couple of miles away from Goodwood Circuit in West Sussex. I would be very interested in whatever parts you may have. Thank you for taking time to list them. The glass is something I need too, I was going to get pilkington to make them but if you have originals its much nicer!

    Kind regards
    Darren

Kudos for taking on this project. When I read the parts list in your original post I thought it would be somewhat easy to finish, but then looking at the photo there's a lot that's missing (drivetrain). You are brave to take this on, but hopefully you can make it happen.

Although I don't have any vintage Ferrari experience, I am currently working on two Porsche 356s that are missing parts. Based on my experience, I recommend you look for the most expensive and most difficult parts to locate first. You could end up spending thousands on the "easy" parts and then lose interest because the project sits a long time or you realize that it makes no financial sense at all. I would start with frame, engine, transmission, suspension and missing body parts first. When you obtain the frame and body parts, make sure you have what you need to get a title, preferably from a similar 330 parts car.

    Hey Darren:

Congratulations on taking on this project, but I have to asK: what are you planning on doing for a chassis? Pity to see this car parted out, but it looks as though the body is in really nice shape. Care to let us in on The Plan?

    Thanks Ed,

As tempting as that is, it would be a crime to break 7191 to furnish my car (6727) or visa-versa. Plus at £30K it is way way outta my budget.

Would it not be better to have both cars survive? particularly as they are both RHD.

My goal is to put 6727 back on the road using components that have already been parted out rather than break another car.

Some may think this is financial suicide, but I'm in no great rush or working to a deadline and I have no budget at all. This is just a big dream of mine, to one day have 6727 roadworthy.

    Booth guy,

    That is the $64,000 question.

I'm an average Joe, earning just below average wage, the shell sold on ebay for £2500.00. I have only around £150 disposable income per month (if I don't leave the house).
I am an highly skilled mechanical engineer, time served fitter & turner, coachbuilder, sheet metal worker and coppersmith (skills that are no longer valued in this modern computerised world)
I am skill rich, a mastercraftsman but finacially poor.

I've been offered a 330 chassis for the equivalent of 2 years pay!
An engine for 4 years pay!
And even an identity for my car for 3 years pay!

I've had an email from one guy on here who wanted 1 months pay for just an old rusty fuel tank!

So Boothguy, my morals are way stronger than my bank balance, and my heart rules my head.

I don't even have a garage for it, this is all happening on my driveway.

All I can say is that I have spent this months wages on some old oval tube.

You're just gonna have to watch this space as they say.

If anyone wants to donate some parts that are just gathering dust, then please feel free!
