    good day guys,

I had initial starting problems (both cold and hot) and finally sorted it out....it was dirty battery terminals and bullet connectors........it starts brilliantly now when cold and at times when hot, it takes 2-3 seconds more for which i think it is the flywheel....
on the trail of finding out the cure for the initial cold/hot starting problem, i had stumbled upon the "flywheel issue"....... my car has that distinctive "clunking of pebbles in a can" upon starting and shutting off the engine......it hasn't given me great problems yet, but i would like to sort it out before it does......

i came across this thread and realise that Miltonian is the authority on this!! (according to my348.com !!!)
    http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?p=135130442
however it is not detailed enough for someone who wants to have a go at it for the first time and would like to ask for help if there is a picture by picture thread somewhere here to help me on how to repack the Kluber grease! i will be doing the procedure with a trained mechanic but would still need some guidance....thanks in advance.......

Mario, i retract that earlier question above......i replied before reading that link you gave me and having done so, i realise you're the one who started that thread and its your progress!!!

i'v got another question......which i kind of realise having gone through your thread.....my clutch is brand new.......its got about 3000miles since it got changed ......should it have the current problem (the rattling of pebbles or dilution of the Kluber grease) or was it because something wasn't fitted properly when the clutch was changed?

When your doing the regrease check carefully the flatness of the flywheel as well, so many are badly warped.
and also an issue we have had recently has been some of the voip top cases have been damaged by the clutch bolts digging into them. so advice to check for damage, which will need sorting, and if a problem the length of the bolts. pm me if a problem.
also check the inside rim of the voip case. there is often a bit of a groove developing there from the large O ring.

The rattle you get is kind of like a bag of rocks is the springs inside the flywheel and the grease making all that noise. Mine was pretty bad and did it all the time.

After the repack, nothing….smooth, no more rattles or bag of rocks….ahhh nice and quiet and no more hot start problems.

The clutch is another thing on its own and no, it’s not the clutch that was badly reassembled that is making that noise. The clutch is such a tight and precise fit that I would doubt it could be reassembled back together. Unless something inside broke like a pressure plate finger or a plate spring (thread #34 on page2) but I think the whole thing would have grenaded itself and completely destroyed the clutch and that you would have known (thats only my opinion).

BTW, it was pretty easy but make sure you buy lots of rags and brake cleaner. Also, be careful when cleaning because you can accidentally throw away something like a spacer or plate when cleaning the grease. Rule of thumb, empty all garbage bags in your shop and put new ones then start your work. It’s easier to look through a clean empty garbage pail for parts you accidentally threw out with the greasy rag than to look through a garbage pail with 6 months of junk in it (trust me I know….)

Not quite, there are many similarities but the biggest difference is how the flywheel is fitted. You must not try the 348 trick to separate the voip case by using the bolts through the back. You need good bearing removal skills to get the flywheel off as its held on with snap rings.
The inside is much the same.
