I just saw this over the weekend and what a story..what a life! This woman was amazing and had to have lived one of the most adventurous and interesting lives of her era. If the ruins of the Happy Bottom Riding Club could talk! If you get a chance to see this, make sure you watch the version made for adults (it's on the same disc) and all the extras. I wish they would make a big screen movie of her. They apparently don't need to embellish a thing. We've been looking for an aviation party theme and I think we have found it!!

    Thanks for bringing this up.
A good reason for me to look into this a little more.
TV depictions don't do her justice.

    A special breed...................

I knew and flew with a cohort of Chuck Yeager, ace Larry Blumer, and he had some hilarious stories about the escapades there. Blumer had his own stories from his training days at Tonapah, Nev. Like shooting up the town's water tank by mistake.

He was returning from the gunnery range and was making mock runs on things on his way back. Thinking that he was out of ammo , he drew a bead on the town's water tank and pushed the firing button. There was one round left in the 37mm.
