People were looking at me like I was making up stories, so I found some Winton lap times. Enjoy. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
I might add that none of the cars, apart from 360challenge, were on slicks. Either road or "R" tyres....and it was technology of 10 years ago!! Take some lessons, people! gee....it sounds like I'm being mean....but I'm not. I remember John Bowe doing one lap in my car with me as a passenger and doing either a low 35 or maybe even a 34. My weight in the car is worth at least a second, and he wasn't even trying. So, what would a road oriented 355ch get with a good driver at Winton? Probably a 32 or 33, and that's not on slicks. Something to aim for! SD's 360 time was in his Modena. Standard road car apart from a muffler, lowered a bit (but standard springs/shocks) and Hoosiers. A CS on modern "R" tyres would HAVE to be 2 seconds faster, and a Scuderia on "R" tyres SURELY another 2 seconds again. Gee you guys are lucky SD and I retired hehehehe...just kidding...sort of.
You're being too harsh again PP! Winton has a deteriorated surface, lots of patches and at least one strip of hotmix has been relaid, so has a different composition to the others. Also, the gutter across the main straight just after the start finish line has sunk about 5cm over the years. Easy to see why people recorded better times 10 years ago - it's a bloody goat track now. Even more reason to respect the times that were achieved yesterday. I talked to a local who said the council won't fund a resurface, despite the millions of dollars the circuit brings to the area each year. No votes in motor racing.
Really? Yet the times I see for other track days over the years have improved (I'm sure because of tyre technology) I'll look into it further. Meanwhile, final times from yesterday http://racing.natsoft.com.au/635937046/object_25314976.98J/View?2
lol...yes he did relative times don't seem to have slowed to me. http://racing.natsoft.com.au/635938534/object_8155696.98Q/View?19 2001 http://racing.natsoft.com.au/635938911/object_8297424.98K/View?1 2011 http://racing.natsoft.com.au/635938911/object_8351808.98D/View?23

Speaking of the track not being slower than it was 10 years ago, did you see Brett's lap time? even with 45psi, he did a 1.44
so, nothing inside the car but a wooden box for the driver to sit on, no a/c, no door handles, no carpets, no radio, no glovebox, no bumpers, no muffler .......
I raced there over 10 yrs ago and my last race there was in 2011 and its been a goat track for that entire time, I'm pretty sure its a privately owned track, (same people own Wakefield I believe but could be wrong) so maybe a resurface is up to them, which it looked like the short track has been done. With the National Formula Xtreme championships earlier this month the lap records were broken in three of the five classes. Mind you in saying that from what I saw everyone was having a ball which is what its all about, and some very nice vehicles.
I actually looked for you near your car (I think), and spoke to Brett in between his sprints, I was sitting on the wooden table for a while in front of the canteen, but after I watched a round I decided it was a great day for lunch a the Bonnie Doon pub, which had cold beer but no cook :-( Then drove back through Yea and Whittlesea.
Fair enough. It was a bit warm to be sitting around at Winton I must admit. Funny about no cook. ...and sounds like a better drive home than the one I had on the good old Hume.
Has Mr Pee Pee had an epiphany? He seems just so noice, obliging and polite. Even nice to the devil incarnate himself, Mr Oil Gate. What gives? Is it something in the water up at Winton?
