Still working on the little agravating items sorted out on my car (purchased Aug of this year). Did a search about squealing brakes and read several posts about Porterfields and Axxis brake pads. Several people stated that after about 1500 miles the Porterfields started squealing again. So I did a search for the Axxis brake pads for a 1991 348 TS and did not have any luck. One place mentioned in a 2007 post, stated the bads are no longer available. Anybody have any recommendations? Thanks.

I put Porterfield R4S pads on my F355 about 8,000 miles ago, and have never had a single squeal or brake dust issue. I say try the Porterfield pads from Ricambi, you'll probably like them.

I've had the Porterfield R4S pads on now for around 5,000 miles and they only squeal once in awhile... when I poke 'em

I use StopTech ceramic (posi-quiet) brake pads. Very quiet and great performance. I sprayed stop-squeal on the back on the pads prior to installing and also applied anti-squeal grease on all mounting hardware.

I went with the Poterfields which squeeled less than stock but I still get it bad at low speeds. I didn't see a US vendor that stocked the backing plates (EBC seems to make them?) but that will be my next step as soon as I find a seller.

Are you sure they are not just glazed from light use. This happens to me a lot.
Just get up to speed and brake strongly.

Mike, they probably are as I drove this morning and braked hard and did not have the low speed squealing (normally happens comming up to a stop light). It's just embarassing when you slow down for a light, and it sounds like a very loud dump truck slowing down with a full load. You know that at least one person is thinking "look at that - a person driving a car like that and can't even afford to fix his brakes".

If the brakes are glazed over, how often does the glazing typically happen? Thanks for the replies.

Did the procedure, at time of installation and later when the squeal returns, works temporarily. The big brembos on my STi, Camaro and the brakes on my Lotus don't have this habit. No other car I have ever owned has had brake squeal like this 355, but I love it anyway.

Have you folks try to chamfer the leading edge of the pads? I do it subconsciously and never had a real issue except for some glazing once in a while but a few good stops clears that up.
Also anti squeal on the back of the pads, let it dry 15-30 min before installing the brakes, important.

Or just keep your foot off the brake unless your going to use it hard :)

+1, I got my Porterfield R4S pads from Ricambi/Daniel several years ago, no squealing, less dust and they work very well. I'm happy with them.

AND, even if they did squeal, it certainly cannot be any worse than the oem pads that squeal all the time! ;)

Axxis makes great pads, but the only ones worthy of putting on your Ferrari would be the XBG or ULT...and I have no experience with them. Their Advanced Deluxe Ceramic are great at low dust and noise (have used them on my daily driver), but don't have the great pedal feel and fade resistance of the R4S.

Just had the porterfield R4S pads installed on my 355. The grip and feel when braking is much better than the OEM pads that were on my low mileage car. No annoying brake squeals either. Having the rotors resurfaced may have helped a little with that though. So far very happy with these brake pads that I got from Ricambi.
