Hi, very sorry for not getting back sooner, i have been jammed. The honest answer is i really dont know - I would love for someone to say? Nevertheless if we cant get the answer i am happy the way it is - like a big valve on an old steam engine! cheers Mark
Hi, I am absolutely touched by those incredibly kind words, i am chocking back a tear and smiling at the same time as my father would have loved this journey more than anyone - it has been very emotional and often very lonely - sharing every detail with everyone on FerrariChat has been one of the greatest pleasure and i feel i have meet a wonderful collection of passionate people. When my father was alive i would have talked to him every single day about this project, i would have taken his advice, listen to his wise words and relished his support, passion and huge experience. With no one to call, it would have been wasted - FerrariChat members filled that void, and on too many occasion to recall have been my guide, support and knowledge - thank you all for that. Thank you for making me take a few minutes to reflect and recall the wonderful times racing around the Galloway Hills in his rally car, the skinned and oily knuckles, the laughs and the love of a great upbringing. Cheers Mark
ha ha great - i may have to settle for the A3 out of London - but will certainly be trying the redline in perhaps 3rd! cheers Mark
Hi, we have a full set of black nuts, you can see a few on there but not many - but remember Mike has not tightened everything up yet, on the final lock down the black nuts will be fitted, so they dont get marked to much if parts have to be removed / refitted etc. cheers Mark
Fantastic - Lighter flywheels always change a car's character SO positively. I recently completed a new clutch/lightweight flywheel job on my track car (a simple Miata but the idea is the same): The difference is truly enormous. A bit more noise is typical and they can be trickier in traffic (all depending on the percent decrease in weight, of course) but the engine's urgency to rev and accelerate is so worthwhile. Once again, it's such a treat to follow your project! Cheers!
Mark. Apologies for breaking in to thread here. I have followed your posts for some time and what you have achieved is truly inspirational. We are just in the process of improving and refurbishing the heads on my 275 2-cam. The valves we have been supplied have the collet groove too low by 1.5mm thus over-compressing the spring if installed. We are trying to source other valves. Who manufactured your new valves please? Tks Nige
Hi, Apologises for the long break since athe last update, but we are back on track now! There were some complications with the studs and threads that hold the rockers down on the cams and heads, but after some clever engineering we are now back in business. I took these pictures on Saturday morning, everything is now assembled, bar the sump and rocker covers being refitted, we are ready for the engine to go on the dyno some time this week. cheers Mark Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Hi, not yet , small delay as the pressure test prior to going on the dyno highlight a small water leak - being rectified now, will update as soon as i have more info. cheers Mark
Great stuff there. Have you any information re the valve spring specs? Seat pressure and open pressure etc?
You picture yourself driving around London Mark? http://www.autogespot.nl/ferrari-275-gtb/2012/10/11#img1 Gr. Martin
Hi, no further updates at the moment! awaiting a new part.... CALLED THE BLOCK! the new block supplied by the Ferrari Factory Classique department had a fault when pressure tested, it leaked like the Trevi Fountain!!!!! Factory are supplying a new block, it will be here soon then we can finally get it finished. Winter now, so pressure off - 3 weeks work will finish the car once we get the part. these things are sent to try us. cheers Mark
Hi Mark, Bad luck.....I think you want to drive her rather than fighting FC. But just curious, it did cost you a lot to find out the block was wrong, do they help you in this, or are you covering all the additional costs? ciao Oscar
Mark, This is a truly fantastic thread and one of the reasons I joined the forum. I had to see pictures of this restoration. It is quite strange, to me, that something mentioned in the 13 post of this thread is the hold up so close to the end. Challenges to overcome at all stages, I guess. The car looks fantastic and I look forward to seeing the final outcome of this hard work. Todd
MArk, I have to say this is an amazing restoration project! The car looks stunning and the owrk done to it to bring it back to its former glory was just unbelievable. The Silver with Red looks way more sexy and classy than then Ferrari Red.
