    Can anyone tell me if the secondary air pump will kick in intermittently once the car is warm and up to temp. I took my 355f1 for a 10 min spirited drive and at the first yield sign the secondary air pump kicked in. I do not remember if it used to do that and I am second guessing because it failed a smog test today.

    usually they are used when the engine is cold and the fuel/air mixture is rich.
    my 355 and other cars you can hear it run for a short time on start up when engine is cold

    The air pump should turn on with cold start up and run only for a couple of mnutes.
    It should not come on when the car is warm or up to temperature.

    Hi Chris thanks for your help because I used your engine out right up a lot last year when I did mine. Maybe some one can help my car failed smog after passing easily in 2009 before my engine out and I am wondering if maybe an injector is not working properly causing a lean condition even when the engine is warn. I thought maybe that was why the secondary air pump would cycle even though the engine is hot. Plus something is way out because my numbers are considerably worse than before the new numbers are as follows:
    15MPH 2001rpm CO2 9.27 O2 6.37 HC 144 CO 1.11 NO 1152
    25 MPH 2393 rpm CO2 10 02 5.76 HC 57 CO .52 NO 594

    MY OLD NUMBERS FROM 2009

    15MPH 2003 rpm CO2 12.18 O2 3.24 HC 38 CO .14 NO 255
    25MPH 2389 rpm CO2 10.72 O2 5.30 HC 30 CO .11 NO 115
