I have been running slightly odd sizes on my 348GTC because I couldn't get the correct ones in R spec. I was running 225/40 R18's at the front (which is correct) and 265/35 R18's at the rear (should be 265/40, but they aren't available).

Last week whilst at a track day I locked the front wheels and flat spotted a front tyre. It has been suggested to me that if I don't run the exact spec rolling diameters as per factory then the ABS might get confused and wheel lock ups are possible.

I am also struggling at track days for rear grip, the car just feels undertyred. Therefore I was thinking of buying some track day specific wheels fitted with R spec tyres that might alleviate both my grip problem and get me closer to the standard rolling diameters of my wheel/tyre choices

    Therefore I have 2 questions;-

    1. Can anyone confirm that the odd tyre sizes (even only slightly different as per the above) might "confuse" the ABS?
    2. What are my options re new wheels and tyre choices for future track days (and won't confuse the ABS) for the 348GTC (same set-up as a 355)?

I can't answer your first question, the second answer I can give you some input.

Since your considering a set of wheels and tires just for the track would you drop down to a 17" ? It might open up some more tire chooses for you. As well as making it cheaper in the long run when you wear through them. 17s are normally cheaper then 18s. Its just something to think about.

As for tires. I have tracked Toyo R888 and they are AMAZING they have tons grip and don't get greasy. If you want more a slick I would go with a Hooser R6. I never used them but once I start to get some more track days under my belt I would be making a change over to them.

The Down side again though is the r888 in a 265/40/18 isn't available. I would suggest a 235/40/18 275/40/18 anyway. Plus if you get a new set of wheels made up, 1/2 inch wider wheel will make everything nice and perfect.

As for wheels. I suggest CCW. They are a great company and stand by their wheels. Even in track days. The Corsair Line will suit your tracking needs and then some. HRE is another great company but I dont see the need to spend 5k on a set of wheels that are just going to get dirty and abused. CCWs are around $2600.

Brakes won't allow 17"s + I am already undertyred at the rear

The feedback I have had re r888's hasn't been that good. I also haven't been able to find wider than 265 on a 40 profile. Be great to find more options

The different rear aspect ratio will not affect your version of ABS - as long as the axle sizes are the same left to right.

Regarding lack of rear grip, can you give me some insight onto the specifications of your particular car - what do you have installed regarding:

    Springs
    Shocks
    Sway Bars
    Bushings

    Also what is your alignment?

A quick fix would be 275/35 Hoosier R6's which have only a slightly smaller overall diameter and should fit without issue.
