    Hey All,
Is the connection for the 2013 458's a 30pin connector [iphone 4/4S, iPod 4th generation]. Or is it a Lightning connector [iphone 5, iPod 5th generation].
    Thanks
    Ray

The Lightning connector just came out so my guess is that it is the 30 pin connector....

As far as I know it is the same as the iphone 4/4s etc, if you want the iphone 5 connected, there is a simple cable to connect to the iphone 4 compatible connectors. (I have just bought this cable anticipating this for my car's arrival early next month)

Apple figured out a clever way to improve it's bottom line. It changes cords used on a billion devices and then makes people pay $29 for an adaptor that cost them less than a buck and you must buy from them.

Nice work if you can get it!

I am never, ever complaining again that Ferrari charges $1300 just to paint your calipers shiny black instead of flat black. :)

Off topic, but thanks for your advice on the options when I ordered my car in April. It is a low option car with the lightweight wheels. I did pay $1,300 for silver calipers :)

My new spider has the old connector and I bought the £25 adaptor from apple also. However I drove a VW yesterday and it connected to my iphone via bluetooth flawlessly. No need to take the device out of your pocket. Does anyone know if the 458 has the same functionality?

458 does not have same functionality. VW group of cars have been coming with this feature for last 2 years. It is on the new Bentley Conti GT.

2013 FF has streaming bluetooth for music and internet (Eg. you can listen to internet-based music, assuming you have coverage). We only use the iPod cable to charge the phone.

I believe 2013 Cali has this feature as well, nut not positive....458 does not yet to my knowledge, however would this is a software mod so could appear magically in production at some point.

Candidly, I try and charge my phone whenever I can, so when its in the car, it's plugged in. Of course, I could have saved $$ on the iPod cable and just plugged it into the USB port.

Wouldn't it be great if a software update for the 458 became available to allow streaming Bluetooth?

In the 458, The phone connects via Bluetooth. For music, the phone must be connected via the cable.

Slightly off topic, but I connected my Ipod to the connector in the glove box and it seems I can only get my list of songs on the TFT screen and play them sequentially or randomly. It does not show my Playlists or allow me to play songs say by artist. Is this correct?

Yes sorry it wasnt clear in my post. The music through bluetooth functionality is not there but the phone is (in the 458).

Although there is that functionality in the Bentley, I always connect my iPhone/ipod via cable so that it recharges as well otherwise the bluetooth really really drains the battery so quickly. I do not think bluetooth music is worthwhile personally.

Alright alright appreciate the search function usage haha [emoji16] hopefully I have this one and what I say is accurate. Others can correct me if I’m wrong.

I believe that getting the 30pin was its own option in the build sheet, apart from anything like premium hifi (which would be focused on the Audio system directly). CarPlay itself didn’t start showing up as a new thing until sometime in 2014, so my understanding is that anything before that was a combination of the right connectors and the right power (for that connector) put in at the factory through an option code.

In short, my understanding is that if it isn’t there and the “iPod connector” option isn’t on the build, then it won’t work out of the box without you jumping through some other options (remember the old FM bridge devices?).

Who needs all that music nonsense anyway, just turn up the engine channel? [emoji41]

Discovered that the cable can be fitted on any car regardless of how it was born. The part can be had for about $300. I just went to Best Buy and bout got a CLA fm transmitter for 35 bucks. The hell with it considering the fact that there’s no improvement in sound quality.
