Just wondering; do you want in to the owner's forum?

It's gonna cost you a couple hours of seat time in your Ferrari (oh damn) so that you can meet some other guys who have Ferraris (double damn) or love them (triple damn) so that you can enter the owner's forum where guys who own and love Ferraris (quadruple damn) can share inane stories with you that they might not want to share with the other 70,000 guys who pop in and out of here every month or two.

In a worst case scenario, it's also gonna cost you $15 (ARRGGH, the same as about 4 gallons of premium) in order to get in the door.

As to your thought about Rob leaving serious change behind? I'm just guessin' but I think Rob's doing just fine. :D

So take a drive, visit, make a couple new friends, and then come on over to the owner's forum.

    Or don't.

But to paraphrase Rob Lay, "Could y'all stop whinin' 'bout it?" :D :D

Yeah, after seeing Yin's post (#29), that basically rendered my idea moot.

Well how could I verify those cars if those cars are blank in my database? That just doesn't make any sense. :)

Thanks for pasting that, although I have no idea where I was supposed to find that - apologies for not knowing. I didn't see it in the first post or anywhere else in this thread (maybe I am blind) and figured it wouldn't hurt to ask.

So, because this individual does not own a Ferrari you chastise him? This is a perfect example of why I don't want any part of the owners forum. Some of you really think your the sh-t. best to act as a good will ambassador for the brand and welcome the ones with the passion even if they are a few dollars short at the moment not belittle them.

I just joined last week, was interested in joining the owners forum and agreed with the OP that it could be somewhat aggravating. I kind of got chastised for my comments which I thought were legit. I see now that 100's of posts have came up on this subject. ( I did not know that)' I also did not see the sticky thread. My goal is to meet as many owners as possible and learn. I think we live in an instant gratification society, when I made my post, I knew it would probably take a month or so, especially with winter weather approaching, to meet the 3 people who I needed for verification. I certainly want to be a contributing member of this forum and not a whiner. My only post in this thread was to put my 2 cents in, not ruffle any feathers.

 I think you misread DM's post; his premise was that cheesey DID have a Ferrari. The sarcasm had to do with how "tough" it was to have a requirement that meant he had to drive his Ferrari and meet other Ferrari fans, etc, etc.

:p I think some responses have been testy, not specifically to you, because: 1) this IS kind of an old question now and the same replies have been supplied in the past, and 2) these threads follow a predictable pattern where the moderators and OF members are often accused of not listening, being stupid, being elitist, being part of a star chamber, having delusions of grandeur, etc, etc. You get called that time after time and you're liable to get short-tempered, particularly when it HAS been discussed and reconsidered many times in the past.

NeuroBeaker, How about a copy of the registration and/or purchase contract if we bought it from a dealer? A simple verification PM from an F-Chat sponsor dealership certifying the purchase? Seems a lot cleaner and easier for all concerned.

As explained in the rest of the thread, the Owners' Forum is a social part of the subscribed section, so it requires a social method of entry. Making the process cleaner and more impersonal would completely defeat the purpose of having the Owners' Forum in the first place.

    All the best,
    Andrew.

Not to belabor the point guys, but I'm confused (see above quotes). These two quotes are inconsistent. The stated purpose in the lower quote is completely negated by the easy access, door-opening action mentioned in the upper quote. "Show ONE PERSON my car" doesn't sound like much of a "social part or method" of entry.

I don't want to be blocked from entry, but come on, these rules cannot peacefully coexist in any form of logic or rational thought.

I know this is your game with your rules, but please, show me where I'm wrong...I can accept logical explanations.

The difference is that a moderator or sponsor is well-known throughout their work in the community. The other case allows for ANY THREE members to vouch for your ownership - that means that it doesnt matter WHO they are. It can be your next door neighbor, someone across the street, and Joe Shmoe as long as they are FChatters regardless of who they are in the community and regardless of how many posts they have or their join date. Its a little bit of built in flexibility there.

Honestly, people make it into a MUCH bigger thing than it really is.

As an aside, if you are in SoCal as you indicate there are HUNDREDS of guys there in that area who could easily vouch for you. That area probably has the highest concentration of FCars anywhere in the world. I could probably name a dozen FChatters from there off the top of my head right now and ANY of them would be happy to meet to vouch for you.

Pretty simple... the rules are what they are. Don't want to do them? No problem. Don't.
If you want to join the Owner's Forum, do the things you need to do according to the rules.

    It's not complicated.

    :)

    Of course they can. :)

Most of the mods are reasonably well known and enjoy the community spirit, so I would assume that if you're meeting up with one then the chances are it's probably at a social event with other people anyway. For example, when I've met up with other members in the UK, it has often been with a couple of people simultaneously. With the social aspect fulfilled and you (hopefully) now successfully introduced to the social scene, it just speeds up the process for one moderator to vouch for you than three members. As a concession to those who genuinely live in extremely isolated areas, the verification of a lone moderator is accepted in an attempt to include them to the more intimate social events that they may want to travel to.

Honestly, I share your curiosity as for what goes on in the Owners Forum - as I cannot access it myself. Mostly, I must relay the generalities of the forum having been given a vague briefing. I have yet to own a Ferrari so, when I do finally get into my long-desired 348, I too will have to go through the same verification process... naturally, I cannot provide verification for myself. :D

    All the best,
    Andrew.

I'm doing them; going through the process now. I believe I may already have the requisite number of references?? I'm not trying to attack or discredit anyone, and certainly not a moderator. I was just a bit confused by the responses to the postings of some of the others as well as my own.

I'm fully aware the rules are theirs. Rules can and should be reviewed from time to time by any organization to insure they continue to meet the desired goals of that organization. I don't believe evil is afoot here. I believe F-Chat is a GREAT forum filled with a wealth of information and social interaction.

Cool! As Yin pointed out, the "rules" have been "reviewed from time to time" within
the Owner's Forum and have overwhelming been voted to stay the way they are.

See you in the OF soon!!

    Take care

Agreed, and they do get reviewed here by threads just as these - some people get it and others just get mad because they want exceptions to the rules or refuse to be social with their cars. I will look forward to your arrival in the owners forum and keep an eye out for your Garage Thread!!!!

Thanks, Patrick. Mad :( never. Curious  yes.

I have been amazed at how social Ferrari owners are. I've had a lot of show-type cars in my past and NEVER felt the desire to go and show them.. The same is not true with my Ferraris. I have been to three shows since June (two Cars and Coffee and one SuperCar Sunday) and committed to another on December 2nd. The community is great and amazingly warm. Thanks F-Chatters! :D

Not really interested, just opining observations about some posts and posters, that is not whining... open forum works just fine...

thanks, but I prefer to keep my pants up and zipped, ( to paraphrase another poster )

as to being a Ferrari owner... the entire world knows, those displayed in public domain and those that are not....

Cheesey - where do you live?? I am sure we could find some other FChatters who would be more than willing to help you out with getting through the process if you are willing to take a step in that direction.
