And here we are. I slid the vent back in, manipulating the foam as i went, just to make sure it was all snug around the vent, its really nice to have new foam to work with. The vent looks great! I had to sit back and admire it before even trying it. From all angles, it looks OE and I have to say, this is what Ferrari should have done from the the beginning. I think they just over looked the problem to move the Mondial out the door. Congratulations Ron, your invention makes our daily drives so much better with air that reaches our face and everywhere else. I drove home in 45 degree weather, top up and heat all over my body. Wow, what a major improvement. Thank you. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
That looks terrific Ted, great job, but com'on, does it work, is it functionally better than before? Be an honest reviewer!
I dont know if that was sarcasm, but HELL YES it works. I wouldn't be all flowery if it didn't. I have a video of it blowing me in the face and i was able to direct it all the way down to my knees. Its like a new car in regards to what we all expect.
Sorry man, I missed your previous review that it worked much better! That's terrific and a job well done to you and Ron ! Orders will be coming in for sure!
This really is the perfect example of "a no brainer". Final score - - Ron Frohock (1), to Ferrari Factory (0). The factory designed vent is as effective as a Piper Cub trying to break the sound barrier !! The airplane won't go no faster ....... and the airflow won't go no higher ! Yep, once again, It's all about the angle! Get ready, Ron ........... Cheers, Hank
Hi Hankie, I like your analogy, a cub wouldn't go supersonic if you shot it out of a cannon. But, I'm not ready to give the Italians a zero. I think I posted this somewhere before but after being married to an Italian for 20 years...I believe I have a clue why they designed it that way... Italiani hate to have cold air blow directly on them...There would never be a time when they would intentionally direct cold (or even hot) air on their person. From this light the center design and the little tiny vents on the outer tops of the dash make perfect sense. Not much chance of a life threatening draft in the Mondial.. When my in-laws visit from Rome, the first thing they do is cover up the air vents in the guest room. Which is fine by me because it sends more air into our room...oh yea, Tiziana has been Americanised...she now likes cold air on her person. As soon as I get our AirCon working again, the first thing I'll do is call Ron for a North American Adapter Wedge. Dave
I also appreciate the photo's that you took. Thanks for taking the time! Boy that car looks great! I'm so glad to offer this solution and to have the support of the FChat Team Mondial. I have been enjoying the fruits of my labor in my car for the past month or so. At the risk of sounding boastful, the kit really has improved the amount of air coming thru the vent and the directional adjustment. I have about twenty kits ready to go. Ill possibly make more if demand presents itself. The cost is $140.00 plus $5.00 Shipping cost stateside. Incidentally, does anyone know how to combine posts as I previously started a post titled "Mondial Center Vent and Foam Rebuild Kit" that has the installation directions in it and is more descriptive. It would be great if we could combine the information under the "Mondial Center Vent and Foam Rebuild Kit" post as the title is more informative / searchable. Thanks - Ron Frohock
I also installed this kit before the long drive to Hershey, PA last summer. It was definitely helpful. Of course, Ferrari Mondial QV a/c systems work best in the winter months. At best, the a/c system is bearable when Texas temperatures exceed 100 degrees. We did not sweat on our trip to PA last summer. But with the a/c running continuously, the Mondial car broke down in Charlotte, NC when the fuse box connection for a/c and fuel pump fried. At least it was on our way back to Austin. Had to fly my daughter back to Austin next day, and I flew the following day. It was certainly a memorable trip. I installed the Dave Helms fuse box kit late last year and am ready for another trip! The Austin Ferrari chapter is planning a trip to Fredericksburg, Tx in April. We went last year, and it was my test run for the PA trip. And, the heater is the best feature of the Mondial. Even the wife gets hot with the heater fan that runs mostly in high speed or very low speed. So, if nothing else, the heater will heat you up for the winter months. But many of you can't drive in the winter months. Fortunately, we have year round driving seasons in Central Texas.
I can tell its warming up. I've been getting orders for the Center Vent Wedge and Roof Toggles during the past three weeks. Sure I have some available. I have about one dozen kits and a total of ten toggles remaining. Please let me know if I can help. Thanks Ron Frohock.
Hello Mr. Frohock, the legendary chat master and mechanical engineer wizard. I finally have my first Ferrari and am immersing myself in the endeavor that is Ferrari. My redhead (with black hat over blond bottom) came with a CA plate FARARRI, and will go by the nickname Fara, and I by Fara's Daddy. I appreciate all the information and resources found in the posts, and I find myself with the first project (of many I am sure), which brought me to you and your roof latch rebuild kit. I am missing the "U" toggles, and the latch on the right. My left although intact is original and therefore suspect. I pray you can still part with two kits for my new mistress. Also, any leads on the catch/latch arm would be appreciated. The prices from eBay and two local independent mechanics is the "supply/demand" extortion scenario. A local upholstery shop cloth top supplier said a former client found an Alfa Romero Spider latch as a clone substitution, and referenced Fchat as a source. I am still learning the search and threads but could not find the post. Ebay search pictures show a leather loop on the end of most the Alfa latches and other pictures do not show the underside opened to reveal the mechanism. Alfa Romeo Spider Top Latch Strap 1970 94 Catch Convertible Veloce Quad | eBay. This attached seems the most likely match. Alfa Romeo Spider Duetto Convertible Latch LH or RH | eBay. Thank you for your time and any assistance you can provide. Please provide provisions for reimbursement for the kits if available.
Fara's Daddy, Sorry I haven't replied sooner. I've been off line for ten days - on vacation. PM Sent. Thanks Ron Frohock
I found out that Ron still has some of the kits, I just installed one of the vent kits in My coupe and now I am able to drive in the Texas heat and the A/C is working great! these kits are super simple to install and they work! Thanks Ron
thank god Simi is on the Ventura side of the mountain about the same as LA temps! over 113 in the "Valley" today OMG so like totally hot!
