Anyone ever replace their 355 windshield? Seems all the ones ive seen done have some kind of flaw when replaced. Many are telling me that I shouldnt replace mine unless I really need to as it is very hard to install the new one without any flaws. Seems that on some the rubber seal dosnt fully cover the upper corners and or the metal trim dosnt sit down flush. Anyone ever install one or had one installed perfectly and if so, what are the tricks?
    Thanks guys.

I don't know the tricks although mine was replaced with factory glass and original seal and looks perfect to me.

Had mine replace at the dealer about 4 months ago and your right the rubber seal didn't fully cover the trim and it doesn't sit flush. I'm still waiting for the glass guy to come back to the dealer to fix it. Every time I'm driving over 60mph it sounds like my side windows are crack open, It's driving my crazy.

Make sure he replaces both seals with new seals. Do not use the old seal. The window will not seat properly. Mine was done perfectly the second time around.

I got mine from http://prosourceglassintl.com/ and it came out to about 1000$ shipped from PA to Vermont (no affiliation).

It's a 100% original sigla with the proper mirror bracket, sun shade and antenna.

I was lucky enough to find the local guy who does all the windshields for the dealer and it cost me 500$ of labor.

He saved the existing trim and the windshield and installation are absolutely perfect.

The trick to saving the trim is to remove the lower trim part (not sure how he did it without damage). Once that is removed, you put your hands under the glass and lift it up by yanking a couple of times. This will make the upper and side trim pop up so it can be removed without damaging it.

Once he reinstalled it after I repainted the car, he used this black paint to fill the contour, then he put some black stuff which I assume is some sort of silicone sealer and then popped in the glass and trim.

It was a work of art.....this guy was good. His name is Vite Vitres Jacques in Montreal (no affiliation)

It's expensive, sure but remember that a good installer will save you the 1000$ trim piece, 500? it's worth it.

Also, I believe changing the windshield at the F dealer will cost at least 3500$ so my total expense was 1500$ and seems like a crazy bargain all things considered.

Just had mine replaced with a factory windshield and trim. $4400 for parts alone so you saved quite a bit more than that.

The dealer I bought my 355 from replaced my window before I ever got her so I had no idea an install was so pricey.

Dang... I have full glass coverage insurance on my 355 with a $100 dollar deductible I bet if I ever make a claim against it the company will up my rates after they get done cleaning their shorts. ;)

Great info. Like most things with these cars, its best to have someone who works on them all the time do the job.

Just wondering, why so many window replacements? Is it for the common thermal cracking (as I understand it) where the rear view mirror attaches? I have a small crack there, it bothered me 4 yrs ago but I just don't look at it now :D

Mine was actually fine except for a 7 inch by 3 inch white spot that go created within the glass. the car was left outside and the moisture got in there.

I suppose I could have lived with it because the glass had no cracks but it drove me crazy and, since I was repainting the car, I went ahead and replaced the windshield.

One minor detail Fab. It looks like the rubber trim from the windshield is sitting on top of the fender in the last photo of the windshield of the car in red. In the photo pre-paint, the rubber trim is under the lip of the fender. I've heard of folks having to pull the rearward edge of the fenders loose from the car in order to get this seal to sit correctly.

I never noticed that before but it looks like I was taking the pictures while he was working therefore got the snapshot before he was finished.

I think I remember him using a type of rubber thingy to slip it back in place.

As you can tell by the photos I took today, all is well and the front fenders were never removed.

It's really simple to do just time consuming. Find someone that will take there time doing the installation and you should be fine.

Actually, this guy was pretty fast. It took him about 25 minutes to remove the window and then about 35 minutes to put the new one back in.

    500$ for an hour's work....pretty good!!!
