    Thanks. I thought so.

I'm going for #12 next year as well, looks like the catch fences aren't an obstacle to photography.

I can see some good use for 600mm lens.

How do you get access to the challenge/historic/GT3 paddock?
It wouldve been cool to go over there.

Looking forward to hear the answer, but my feeling is that it wasn't off limits: Historic cars at Indy were there for all to see and the Challenge cars in Montreal have their own paddock, which you can visit with a regular ticket.

I'm also curious as to whether there were any "demo" F1 cars placed around Austin?
I always love those as you get a chance to take detail shots up close.

Anyone notice the staggering number of pure motorsport fans that had no clue about who or what they're cheering for?

In the paddock, at least, a bunch of folks didn't even know who Alonso or Vettel were and actually thought Red Bull was powered by Infiniti...amongst other things.

I see it as both a good and bad thing; good that their pure enthusiasm for anything with a motor and wheels brought them to the inaugural kickoff of the circuit, bad because they don't particularly care for the F1 sport per-say, to even bother with some light reading to get a gist of what's going on.

Some didn't even know F1 was a traveling circus, with races all over the world. One fella even told his wife that the engine in Hamilton's car was the same as the one in his MP4...

I was entertained to say the least.

Well, they were right. Technically speaking.

But I know what you mean. I remember USGP at Indy where the folks next to me thought that the race had started when the cars left for the warm-up lap.

They were referring to the engine, but yes, technically, Infiniti does fund/power the team =)

And yeah, 2 ladies next to me made the same mistake lol and commented, "Wow these cars are not fast at all," and thought the race got reset from a false start when the cars lined up on the grid again.

The cans are powered by Renault. Renault owns Infinity or vice versa.

Support paddock access was by photo badge credentials that were checked pretty well at the gate. There were some escorted groups that came through during the weekend.
